MEL (Monitored Edge Link) recently successfully completed testing to become a UL325 Recognized Component. The MEL

transmitter/receiver eliminates the need to hard wire a monitored edge sensor to the door operator.
MEL meets the current requirements of UL325 by continuously checking for the presence and connection of a monitored external sensing edge. When attached to currently UL325 Listed commercial door operators, a loss of signal transmission or fault in the system will cause the operator to revert to constant pressure to close. This new product allows any monitored edge sensor to work with any operator brand with no additional module required.
MEL may also be used for applications where the edge sensor functions as a non-monitored ancillary device. MEL is "backward compatible" and will function with gate operators and UL325 commercial door operators manufactured prior to August 29, 2010. When used with these operators the response will vary dependent upon operator controls and may or may not revert to constant pressure to close if there is a fault in the system.
Regardless of date of operator manufacture, MEL provides on-board diagnostics. LED indicators will alert users in the event of loss of power or a fault in the system. The MEL edge transmitter is powered by "AA" lithium batteries (2). The batteries have an average life expectancy of 12 months.
Miller Edge provides safety accessories to the door industry including contact and non-contact sensing edges, light curtains and stationary photo optic beams along with related accessories.
