USCIS Releases New Edition of Form I-9
June 25, 2008 - The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services has released a NEW version of Form I-9, the employment eligibility verification form. The form is dated June 16, 2008 and now replaces the previous edition of the form, which was set to expire on June 30, 2008. Employers are advised to begin using the new edition of Form I-9 as soon as possible.
Employers are advised to use the Form I-9 to verify the eligibility and work identity of all new employees, including U.S. citizens, at the time they are hired. The form is NOT submitted to the government. Employers should retain the completed forms for three years after the employee's date of hire or one year after the date that the employment is terminated, whichever is later. Form I-9 can be completed and stored electronically or by hard copy.
