 | Downtown Mobile Alliance Annual Meeting Set |
| |
Noted Developer and Urban Thinker Chris Leinberger to Speak
Mark your calendar for Thursday, September 8th for the Alliance's annual meeting at the Battle House Hotel. The keynote speaker this year is the perfect follow-up to New Urbanist Andres Duany, who last year challenged the audience to think in new ways about how we approach downtown development. Chris Leinberger's development firm, Arcadia Land Company, has active projects in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Independence, Missouri, and was instrumental in the revitalization of downtown Albuquerque, New Mexico. Leinberger coined the phrase "walkable urbanism" and is putting the principle into practice across the country.
The annual meeting sells out quickly, but right now the only way to guarantee a table is to sign on as a sponsor. Sponsorships are $1000 for Alliance members and include a table of 10 seats, invitations to a reception for Leinberger at the Battle House Hotel the evening before the annual meeting, promotion in all printed material, and acknowledgement during the meeting. Please contact Elizabeth Sanders at esanders@downtownmobile.org or 251-434-8498 if you're interested in partnering with the Alliance on this exciting event.

Hogzilla 2011
June 18, 2011, 7:00 p.m.
Veet's Bar and Grill
66 S. Royal Street
The Mobile Hog Chapter invites you to attend Hogzilla 2011 -- a fundraiser for Camp Smile. The event, organized by The Ladies of Harley, is a beauty pageant with a twist... all the contestants will be male hog riders!
It's the event's 3rd year, and so far more than $10,000 has been raised for Camp Smile - a summer camp experience for persons with and without disabilities. It's a great cause, and one they're willing to embarrass themselves to support.
On June 18th, roughly 15 of the Mobile Hog Chapter's manliest members will lose the leather jackets and helmets to don dresses and lipstick. It's a great photo/video opportunity -- and a great way to give back to the community.
For more information contact Howard Hall at hehall3460@comcast.net.

One Stage - One Night: Mithril and Roman Street
Thursday, June 23, 2011, 7:30 p.m.
Saenger Theater
Roman Street is a energetic band born and raised out of Mobile, AL dabbling in the arts of "new" flamenco, smooth and not-so-smooth jazz, and its own brand of fusion style music with a youthful and spontaneous approach to musical expression.
Mithril is fast becoming one of the most sought after Celtic/World music groups on the concert series scene. The band's unique progressive style has its roots in traditional Celtic music but moves far beyond that, weaving such diverse influences as American folk, classical, and Middle Eastern melodies into their full tapestry of sound.
