CA$H COW

We have winners!
cash cow

Our CA$H COW contest is generating winners! Congratulations to our lucky customers:

Judith Mussett, Waterloo, $5

Jennifer Van Gent, Cedar Falls, $5

Brooke Abben, Evansdale, $5

Here's how the contest works: Every Monday, five 1- gallon containers will be marked as $5 winners. The first of every month, one 1-gallon container will be marked as $100 winner.

Since no one won the $100 prize in September, October's prize has been increased to $200.

If you win, redeem your cash prize at either store. Good luck and have fun!

Close to home

Price Lab serves locally grown food

Hansen's Farm Fresh Dairy is participating in an effort to serve locally made products at Malcolm Price Laboratory School. Our milk is served in reusable cups at lunch, giving students fresh milk while at the same time reducing the amount of packaging waste.

Thank you to Rob Stanley, the school's food service director and owner of Roots Market in Cedar Falls, for working with educators and parents to get the project started.

Questions answered

Soft-serve ice cream differences

This question recently appeared in the Call the Courier section of the Waterloo Courier:

Q. What are the ingredients in Dairy Queen? Is it made from 100 percent dairy products?

A. Here are the ingredients for DQ vanilla soft serve, according to the International Dairy Queen Web site: milkfat and nonfat milk, sugar, corn syrup, whey, mono and diglycerides, artificial flavor, guar gum, polysorbate 80, carrageenan and vitamin A palmitate.

We put fewer ingredients in our soft-serve ice cream at the Outlet in Cedar Falls. Our ingredients are skim milk, cream, sugar, egg yolk, vanilla, locust bean gum, guar gum and dextrose.

Cow of the Month

Sand
Sand

October's Cow of the Month is Sand. She was born Sept. 12, 2003, so she just turned 6 years old. She has had four heifers (Sadie, Sammy, Sydney and Shiloh) and one bull (Simba). Sand is a worker bee in the milking parlor. In her lifetime she has produced 91,382 pounds of milk --- that's 10,625 gallons! She is a sweetheart to work with and is a very low- maintenance cow. However, if you give her attention she will not turn it down! One of her favorite things is to be led around by a halter away from her herdmates. It makes her feel very special!

We have more than just dairy!

Apples and pork

Moo Roo and the Outlet now have apples and apple cider for sale. October is also National Pork Month, and we encourage you to try our variety of pork products from Delaware County Meats. Apples are a great complement to pork chops!
