Fresh Produce
|
|
At the Moo Roo and Outlet
We've had a fairly good supply of produce available
for our customers this summer.
Depending on the availability, we hope to have some
tomatoes, squash, potatoes,
cucumbers, onions, green beans, melons, etc. Keep
watching for fresh produce when
you stop in to pick up your dairy products or grab
some ice cream to enjoy.
Thanks to the following for providing their produce for
our tables. We appreciate
their hard work.
Rose Hill Farms (Moseley), Hudson
Lorenz Produce, Traer
Ken & Carolyn Adolph, Traer

Price Lab Lunch Program
|
|
Using local foods
Hansen's will be providing milk and possibly other
dairy
products for the Price
Lab school lunch program in Cedar Falls this school
year as part of a pilot
program using as many local foods as possible during
food preparation. Ron Stanley,
owner of Roots Market will be in charge of the meal
program.
We are excited to be a part of this program. We
encourage our customers to
support our local farmers and the local markets for
their
fresh foods that are
made available to us. This is the healthy way to eat
and we need to encourage
our young people to learn to use the many varieties of
produce they sell.

Thank You!

|
Paulo Trolano & Marie Stigliani
We'd like to thank Paulo Troiano and Marie Stigliani
for
their demonstrations on making fresh mozzarella
cheese and yogurt, respectively, at the Moo Roo on
July 25th.
We had a nice turnout and appreciated the favorable
comments to this activity.
If you have something you would like to share, please
let us know and we'll give
you the space and opportunity to do so. There
appears to be a lot of interest in
learning to make different foods. Perhaps we have
some people who have been
using local market foods in recipes that they would like
to share.

Cow of the Month
|
|
Aguilera
|
August's Cow of the Month is Aguilera. She is 3 years
old and has had one heifer calf, Aggie, and one bull
calf. She has produced 32,814 pounds of milk in her
career --- that's $98,442 at $3 a gallon! Aguilera is
quite the special cow. The unique marking on her
head makes her stand out in the herd. If you have
seen the mural at Moo Roo, Aguilera is the young cow
in the forefront of the fall scene. She loves to lick
people's legs with her rough tongue and is always
looking for a rubdown on the head. During milking
time she is very patient and likes to stick her head in
the parlor to supervise the people milking. She
obviously enjoys the attention! Next time you visit Moo
Roo, make sure to see her on the wall.
