RP 7th grader featured on TED-Ed Club blog
Ella Schnake shares views on "Consumerism"

Seventh grader Ella Schnake is currently being featured on the TED-Ed Club Blog with her TED-Ed Club talk about Consumerism.

She filmed the talk as a sixth grader at Eagle Glen Intermediate School. Last school year, fifth and sixth grade LEAP students in the Ray-Pec School District formed a local TED-Ed Club as part of the TED-Ed Club pilot. (LEAP is the program in the Ray-Pec District for students identified as gifted learners.)

Lezlie Waltz, who teaches LEAP for fifth and sixth grade, is the sponsor of the TED-Ed Club. Last week, she learned that Ella's talk was selected to be featured on the TED-Ed Club Blog.

The TED-Ed Club meeting structure is designed to support students in developing and presenting big ideas in the form of short Ted-style talks based on their own passions. Students also gain skills in storytelling, story boarding, production, and creating visuals that communicate their ideas clearly.

One of the main goals of TED-Ed Clubs has been to provide a platform for student ideas. In the weekly column, they highlight nominated videos from participating schools. More than 126 TED-Ed Clubs from 26 countries around the world participated.

Citizen Advisory Committee
New committee forms
Under the direction of the Ray-Pec School Board, a Citizen Advisory Committee has formed and had its first meeting this week.

The committee includes a cross-section of parents and community members, as well as select Ray-Pec teachers and administrators. School Board Member Dana Hille is the liaison to the Board of Education.

At its first meeting, on Jan. 27, the committee provided input on the District's Long Range Facility Planning process.
