Kent launches his 2014-15 season on October 15 with Great Music in a Great Space at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine: "Te Deum," a concert with the Cathedral Choir and Orchestra performing an inventive mix of music celebrating the "holy," highlighted by Arvo Prt's Te Deum, an evocative choral work scored for three choirs, prepared piano, string orchestra, and wind harp. Prt's setting of the great Te Deum text evokes the mystery of the Divine, combining the influences of medieval music and chant to transcendent effect. The work is presented alongside Felix Mendelssohn's jubilant Heilig, Jacob Handl's Duo Seraphim, "Kedusha" from Ernst Bloch's Sacred Service, and John Tavener's hypnotic Svyati for choir and cello, which will feature guest soloist Patrick Jee, a cellist of the New York Philharmonic.

Haydn's The Creation (Die Schpfung) sung in German is the first concert of Kent's season with the Oratorio Society of New York at Carnegie Hall on November 3, for which he will be joined by soloists Susanna Phillips, Aaron Blake, and Sidney Outlaw. (Watch a video of Kent talking about his OSNY season, which marks his tenth year with the 142-year-old choral institution.)

For the season's first concert by the Manhattan School of Music Chamber Sinfonia, Symphonic Chorus and Chamber Choir, Kent leads Mozart's Mass in C Minor, and MSM colleagues Ronald Oliver and Malcolm Merriweather conduct music by Brahms and Haydn on November 12. And Kent is preparing Musica Sacra for a performance of Mendelssohn's Die erste Walpurgisnacht with the Orchestra of St. Luke's led by Pablo Heras-Casado on November 6.

And organ fans, take note: Kent's annual organ recital at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine is a program of Bach, Durufl, and Scheidemann on November 18 - a program he will also take on the road for performances in Rutherford, NJ, and Fort Worth, TX (see dates below)! Kent's recording of the Durufl Suite, along with the Requiem, is available via his website's discography page.

Don't forget that if you are in Morningside Heights on a Sunday afternoon, you're most welcome to join Kent and the Cathedral of St. John the Divine community for Evensong - candlelight and beautiful choral music every Sunday at 4 PM with the Cathedral Choirs. Visit the Cathedral website for details.
