October 2014

The Christmas tree is lit, cookies are baking in the oven, presents are placed under the tree, family is in town for the celebration, Christmas music is playing for all to hear, the Christmas story is ready to be told and excitement in the air. Christmas is all these things and more for a lot of people, but unfortunately, it's not that way for some of our kids at Hillcrest and we have an opportunity to change that and you can help us.

Christmas is by far one of the most exciting times on our campus and we strive to make it memorable for each of our kids.  Most importantly, we get the opportunity to share the story of Jesus' birth and what Christmas is truly about.  It is also a time where we can bless our kids with a Christmas like they have never had before. We could not do what we do without the support that comes from our sponsors, church partners, and friends; however, we still need your help to make it the best Christmas possible.

We have created a way to provide you tools to assist us this Christmas.  Visit our COMPACT Christmas page on our website and find information on how you, your family, your church, business, or organization can partner with us this upcoming Christmas season.

Help us make this the best Christmas ever

for each of the kids of COMPACT Family Services.

The COMPACT 70th Celebration of COMPACT of Hillcrest Children's Home was amazing!  Before the sun was up, over 130 runners were up for celebration in our inaugural Run For The Family 5k.  The participant children, students, and adults enjoyed  the run through Garvan Woodland Gardens.  It was a morning for the memory book.  It blessed the COMPACT TLC independent living ministry for students aging out of foster care.  Here we come next year, and bigger.
The 70th Celebration Hillcrest Harvest Festival was an event filled with fun, food, worship, honor, concert, fellowship, and more.  The carriage rides, inflatable games, tours, hayrides and other activities gathered around Belin Field at Hillcrest was fitting.  The weather was perfect. The presence of the Lord surrounded. Joy filled souls.  Among the great guests were friends of Hillcrest past.  The group was highlighted by Milton Davis, the first son of Hillcrest who came when Gladys Hinson opened the ministry in 1944.  He blessed us all with his love for Jesus, the kids, and the ministry.  Featured musical guest, Jimmy Wayne ministered uniquely in song and testimony.  As a former foster care kid, he connected with hearts in a healing voice.  Hillcrest's 70th Celebration was a great view of the past, present, and promising future of this ministry.
Thank you for loving this ministry!
Jay Mooney, Executive Director

We recently asked some of our staff to tell us their story on how they came to COMPACT Family Services.  We would like to share with you what one of our Houseparent couples, Baron and Regena Way had to say.  The Ways, along with their two boys, Logan and Hudson, bring fun and excitement to their cottage of Middle School, Junior and High School boys called Netzel.  There is always an adventure.

Q)  How did you hear about COMPACT Family Services?

Being raised in the Assemblies of God, I have always known about it. My dad even put in an air conditioning system when I was little. I have wanted to work here since I was in Jr High.  -Regena

Q)  Was there a moment that you instantly knew that you were supposed to be here?
Last year, I had applied for a Caseworker position. Rhonda called to let me know there wasn't one available, but asked if we had ever considered being House Parents. It was my dream, but not quite Baron's. The next day, Baron was let go from his job.

TEAM COMPACT groups all year long have been able to accomplish an incredible amount of projects across our campus and we are forever grateful to the time, energy, finances, and effort that have been brought forth.  We have updated a list of the completed projects on our website as well as a thank you to all of the groups who have come this year.

We have recently added all of the projects we have planned for 2015 and we look forward to see all that will be accomplished in the coming year.  Visit our TEAM COMPACT page and review the list and contact us if you feel like one of the projects would be a good fit for your church, organization or business.
