Company Confidential

Greetings!

AES is celebrating its 35th year this month. The story of how AES was founded in 1981 not only captures the innovation, foresight and entrepreneurial spirit of our people, but also the Values we share around the world to this day.

Every year, AES people take time to reflect on our shared Values which define how we work together to deliver on our mission of improving lives by providing safe, reliable and sustainable energy solutions. Many AES businesses will be conducting their own Values Day event in the coming weeks to recognize how AES was Established with Values and the many milestones that brought our Values to life. Recaps of how our businesses celebrated our Values will be provided in future issues of the Spotlight.

BECOMING AN ENERGY STAR
Category initiative training boosts the Accelerate Global Sourcing Opportunities work stream

Becoming an Energy Star requires us to change how we work, including leveraging our scale worldwide. The Accelerate Global Sourcing Opportunities work stream is helping us redefine how we procure what we need to run our businesses at AES. The work stream is focused on specific global categories or types of goods critical to AES as well as implementing new technology to enable us to better interact with our suppliers. By focusing on specific categories, we can project how much of certain types of items we'll need in the future to get the best prices from our suppliers.

Three of the categories we're focused on are gas turbines, steam turbines and generators. To help people grow and advance their skills in this area, there will be a training next week related to these categories. The goal of the training is to help AES people in our SBUs get familiar with the category, and equip them with the knowledge they need to forecast and develop procurement plans. In addition, this training will allow people from the SBUs to interact with people from other regions to gain an understanding of the local business landscape and market differences. If you have any questions about the training, please contact AES Managing Director for Global Supply Chain Humberto Lemus.
CYBERSECURITY
Securing AES against cyberattacks

As part of our effort to respond quickly to cyberattacks, the Global Cybersecurity team recently hosted an incident response drill with the Finance and Global IT teams. We conduct drills to ensure AES is ready in an event of a cyberattack. As our Cyber Ninja Guide says, "You will be compromised so be prepared."

The most recent drill started with a simulated ransomware attack, installed software that stops a user from accessing their computer or files, against a single AES computer and was followed by a series of simulated attacks against our global finance systems. Exercises like this drill allow people and teams to use relevant and realistic cyber incident scenarios to improve AES' Cyber Incident Response capability and close any vulnerabilities that might be discovered during the drill.

ALWAYS ON FOR SAFETY
Ray Winklestine is Always On for Safety

Ray is an EHS Manager for CBI, AES' contractor partner at the Eagle Valley Construction Project in Martinsville, Indiana, part of the US SBU. Ray's commitment to safety is remarkable. He believes safety heroes are proactive people who lead by example. Ray said, "A safety hero is someone who does the right thing when nobody is looking at work and at home. I can be a safety hero for my colleagues by not walking past any hazards, coaching, using my Stop Work Authority when needed, and doing the same things at home." Preventing incidents and having a Job Safety Analysis (JSA) mindset is critical. Ray explained, "The first step in conducting a JSA is understanding the task at hand. Once you understand the task, you need to mitigate the hazards that potentially come with that task. It is important to think of the worst thing that could happen and make sure that the right safeguards are in place to prevent it."

Ray added, "When I first started on this project, I was impressed with AES safety values and standards. The policies were in words, but people's actions speak far past that. It helped us establish the culture that we have onsite. If I could share one thing from the experience that I learned from working at Eagle Valley, it's the successes you can have when everybody truly looks after and cares for each other on the project."

Thank you, Ray, for your commitment to safety and for helping others to be Always On for Safety, at work and at home.
