Company Confidential

Greetings!

Every quarter, AES President and CEO Andrés Gluski and members of the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) directly engage with all AES people through Quarterly Updates. In these updates, the ELT discusses our current state of business, recognizes achievements and provides an outlook for the future. In addition, they answer questions asked directly by our people. If you missed the last call, you can listen to the archive call in English, Spanish or Portuguese here. Also, be sure to ask your question using the Ask the ELT survey form. Your question could be answered on the next Quarterly Update or in the Spotlight.

LEADERSHIP MATTERS
Monthly Safety Leadership Message from Mike Chilton

All incidents are preventable at AES. It's a belief we have, and a goal we share to create and sustain a workplace free of incidents. We have equipped all AES people and contractors on our sites with powerful authority to make that goal a reality by giving them the right and obligation to stop work when we see something is unsafe or think that something may be unsafe. It's what we call Stop Work Authority.

Stop Work Authority applies to all activities, whether extremely high risk such as working at height on a construction project or simply observing someone walking while distracted by a mobile phone. Most incidents happen when other people are around that could have spoken up. If you notice or feel something may be unsafe, it's your obligation to say something and immediately stop work. Using your Stop Work Authority shows that you care about others and it could save a life. It's authority that each one of us has - whether you're on the front lines or one of our most senior leaders.
BECOMING AN ENERGY STAR
Cybersecurity efficiency work stream attends national meeting

Strengthening how we safeguard our networks from cyber risks and threats is one of the ways in which we will become an energy star. Every year, we receive thousands of cyber threats and viruses, primarily through emails, web pages and pop-up windows. These threats have the capacity to compromise our financial information, intellectual property and the operations of our plants. To help protect our cyber assets, we partner with government agencies and industry counterparts to stay up to date on tools to protect our network infrastructures. The AES Global Cybersecurity team recently attended the US Department of Homeland Security's Industrial Control Systems Joint Working Group (ICSJWG) meeting in Florida. During the meeting, government and business leaders shared best practices on the latest control system and cybersecurity initiatives. The information shared will help us to continue to shield our network from these cyberattacks while running our day-to-day operations safely and reaching our goal of becoming an energy star.

OUR PEOPLE, OUR ENERGY
AES Indiana completes its first Corporate Challenge

In September, 75 AES Indiana people in the US SBU competed in the Indiana Sports Corporation-Corporate Challenge. Over two weekends, 168 companies participated in sporting events and collected donations for community organizations to promote camaraderie among different Indiana companies. The AES team joined the volleyball and bowling games during the first weekend beating three other groups in the competition. During the second weekend, AES people participated in running and dodgeball challenges. Despite some heavy rain during the activities, our people powered through and finished 16 out of the 27 companies in the division and 12 out of 31 for the industry sector. Congratulations to the team!
ALWAYS ON FOR SAFETY
Luis Rodríguez is Always On for Safety

Luis is an Instrument Technician at AES Changuinola, a hydroelectric plant in Panama, part of the MCAC SBU. Since the day he joined AES six years ago, Luis has been fully committed to safety. He takes the time to analyze safety findings, unsafe behaviors and condition reports in and outside the workplace. He also helps identify corrective actions and implement specific controls at the plant.

Earlier this year, Luis was recognized for his efforts when he improved signage at the plant. He initiated the translation of the exit signs in the plant from English to Spanish to ensure Spanish speakers could understand where the exits are. He also led efforts to install signs and labels to make the hazard warnings inside and outside AES facilities more visible.

Luis knows that being always on for safety extends beyond the workplace and promotes safety among his community and his family members. In his community, he has facilitated sessions on how to conduct safe off-the-job activities, properly use first aid guides and prevent home fires. In addition to these training sessions, he also encouraged the use of traffic signs and convex mirrors to reduce the number of car accidents.

Thank you, Luis, for being always on for safety at work, at home and in the community.
