AES President and CEO Andrés Gluski meets with Washington Ambassadors
At AES, we constantly seek to foster positive relationships with all of our stakeholders, including governments, regulators, local communities, civil society, suppliers, customers, partners and investors, in addition to our people.
Over the past few of weeks in our Arlington office, we hosted Ambassadors in Washington from Bulgaria, Panama, Colombia and Chile to promote AES as a key player in the power sector as well as to reinforce the company's commitment to safe, reliable and affordable electricity in the countries in which we operate. It was also an excellent opportunity to talk about energy storage, and share AES' experience as a leader in commercial energy storage solutions to support the integration of renewables and improve the flexibility and reliability of power systems around the world.
Ambassadors are key in promoting our interests and advocating for our investments in country. These meetings provide us with the opportunity to proactively engage and strengthen our relationships with these important stakeholders in order to achieve our strategic objectives, and position ourselves as a reliable, and sustainable company and a valued partner in the countries where we have a presence.

Smart Maintenance work stream starts conducting global assessments
We've made great progress in each of our Energy Star program work streams. To reach our goal of becoming an Energy Star, we need to maintain that momentum. In June, the Performance Directors and Operations leaders from various SBUs participated in a Smart Maintenance training session led by Andes SBU President and Smart Maintenance work stream leader Javier Giorgio. The training focused on the general Playbook process and tools for Smart Maintenance as well as how to conduct the corresponding procedures.
Since the training, there have been significant milestones in the application of the Playbook process and tools to the maintenance process of our plants in various locations. The businesses in the SBUs have been running smart maintenance assessments based on the playbook guidance provided in the training. We successfully completed Smart Maintenance assessments at Killen (US SBU), Alamitos 1 and 2 (US SBU). Ventanas 4, Guacolda 1 and 5, and Angamos 1 and 2 (Andes SBU).

Modernizing Masinloc in the Philippines
Our Masinloc generation plant in the Philippines, part of the Asia SBU, recently signed a contract to modernize and retrofit its Unit 2 steam turbine. For the past eight months, the team evaluated all the available options to recover the Unit 2 turbine. The team set out to find and pursue its best technical and financial option by analyzing its impact on our engineering, commercial, financial and procurement areas before finalizing the contract. The modernization and retrofit effort will increase in the gross output of Unit 2 from 315 MW to 341 MW, an improvement in its net Heat Rate of around 700 BTU/kWh at maximum capacity and a decrease in emission rate (gCO2/kWh) by 7.5 percent at maximum capacity.
