A message from CEO Andrés Gluski:
We put safety first at AES. We want each AES person and contractor to go home to the people they care about most at the end of each work day. More than 10 years ago, we made a commitment to make our workplaces as safe as they can be. We have made tremendous improvements over the past 10 years, but we recently suffered some setbacks to our efforts with the most tragic consequences. It's important for us all to reflect on what has happened as we did during our recent Safety Stand Down.
As Bernerd mentioned in his message last week, we unfortunately can't change what has already happened. What you can do is make sure you are always doing things the safe way. Speak up if you don't have the necessary information or training to do a job. Even if you've completed a task hundreds or thousands of times, approach each task as if you're doing it for the first time, every time. Stay in the present, and keep your eyes and mind on your task at hand. Use your Stop Work Authority if you have any doubts about the safety of a situation.
We have the practices and procedures to achieve and maintain a workplace free of incidents, but we can't reach that goal without you. Please join together with your teammates and colleagues in recommitting to safety and taking the actions needed to ensure we all go home safely at the end of each day.
Regards,
Andrés Gluski

Asset Management work stream: Positive attitudes drive positive results
Our Energy Star program is not only bringing efficiencies and improved ways of doing things, but also providing strong learning opportunities for our people. These opportunities to help our people grow to their full potential ultimately impact operational performance in a positive way. The Asset Management work stream is focused on improving the processes and systems in a selected group of existing Asset Management Standards which include areas of Performance Monitoring, CapEx and Major Opex Planning, CapEx Management, Maintenance Management and Work Order Management.
Performance Monitoring goes beyond the standardization of our monitoring platform. People will learn and use the data interpretation of equipment condition and thermal performance, enabling faster decision making for the prioritization of plants needs and projects plus maintenance activities.

Monthly Cybersecurity Message from Scott Goodhart
If you found a USB drive at a coffee shop near your facility or if you were given one at a conference would you connect it to your computer? USB drives are small, easy to use and low cost. All of these traits make them convenient devices for hackers to infect your AES computer. Never connect a USB drive to your AES computer unless you are 100% sure of the source and please consider the following reminders:
- Do not connect personally-owned USB drives to AES computers;
- Likewise, do not connect USB drives issued by AES to personally-owned computers;
- If you find a USB drive on the floor, parking garage, or at a coffee shop near your facility, do not connect it to your computer;
- Be suspicious of free USB drives that are given away at conferences or by vendors and do not connect them to your computer; and
- Always physically secure any USB drives containing confidential information.
If you have any questions about safe usage of USB drives or how to safely transfer files to your computer, please contact your local cybersecurity team.

Creating a Safer, Smarter Workplace
The work we do every day saves lives. Just recently, AES was recognized by Auvsi's Xpontential for being an industry leader in using drones in our businesses. Auvsi's Xpontential is the largest international event for the use of drones, robotics and submersibles in the world. John Chambers, Executive Chairman of Cisco commented, "AES is a weathervane for the industry." He went on to say AES leads the use of this new technology for the Power & Utility industry.
In addition, we were also recognized this month as a CIO 100 Award winner by IDG's CIO magazine for our use of drones and submersibles as tools to keep our people safe. The award singled AES out for exemplifying the highest level of operational and strategic excellence among its peers.
Zac Penix from the AES CTO Group supports expanding our use of these technologies globally. About the recent awards, he stated, "I'm truly honored to work alongside some of the most innovative and hardworking people in the world. They have done an exceptional job of implementing new technologies to keep our people out of harm's way, and I'm excited to see where they take our industry next as we work together to provide safe, reliable and sustainable energy solutions in every market we serve." Together, we can make a safer, smarter workplace for our all of our people.

Amy Mooij is Always On for Safety
Amy is the Office Assistant at AES Netherlands in Amsterdam, part of the Europe SBU. She has been with AES for the last two and a half years and has always shown her solid commitment to safety. People often wonder what it means to be Always On for Safety in an office environment. Amy's story is a good example of a person at an office who is always on for safety. "AES changed the way I see life, especially when it comes to safety. I cannot see situations without looking for possible safety hazards and making sure that people are safe. As a leader of the Emergency Response Team, I feel that it is my responsibility to make sure that my colleagues are safe and that they will return home safely at the end of the day," says Amy.
Amy goes above and beyond her duties because she makes safety a personal mission. In addition to her routine tasks, she supports the Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Management in different ways. For example, Amy is the team leader of Emergency Response Team. With the support of other emergency response team members, she tackles and deals with unforeseen situations. She participates in the EHS Committee representing the facilities group, works to close unsafe conditions identified at her workplace actively and helps coordinate EHS events including monthly meetings and global safety day. Being at the front desk, she takes care of each visitor's EHS induction. Thank you, Amy, for reminding us that we contribute to AES' safety efforts even in an office environment, and for being Always on for Safety.
