Company Confidential

Greetings!

Last week, we all stopped worked and took time to Stand Down for Safety. The Safety Stand Down reminded us how important it is for us to focus on safety, live our safety beliefs and follow proper procedures. The actions we take can make the difference if teammates go home safely to their families at the end of each work day or not. We are all responsible for each other when it comes to safety. During the Stand Down, we also had the opportunity to hear from our Safety Excellence Award winner, Butch Haganman, who shared his personal story how an incident changed his life. Click here to hear his story.

LEADERSHIP MATTERS
A message from COO Bernerd DaSantos:
AES Masinloc colleague Alfonso Salcedo passed away

Just last week, we stopped work across the company for safety because safety comes before everything that we do. We each had the opportunity to personally recommit to safety and what we can do to make our workplaces safer for everyone. Your personal commitment to safety is a commitment to your teammates to help keep them safe and to your family, friends and loved ones to return home to them at the end of your work day. It is extremely upsetting to have to report the tragic loss of another member of the AES family. A stark reminder of why our commitment to safety is so very important.

As I shared with you last month, an incident occurred on July 12 during the repair of a high pressure heater at our Masinloc plant in the Philippines, part of the Asia SBU. Six individuals, including five AES people and one contractor, were injured in the incident. On July 16, Cesar Villalon one of the AES people with steam burns covering 90 percent of his body passed away early in the morning. Another AES person, Alfonso Salcedo, with steam burns covering 72 percent of his body had been fighting for his life in the intensive care unit of the hospital since the incident. I am deeply saddened to let you know that Alfonso lost his courageous fight on August 14. The loss of Alfonso marks the second AES person fatality as a result of this incident.

AES UK & Ireland Market Business Leader shares expertise with UK Parliament

Carla Tully, AES UK & Ireland Market Business Leader, was invited to provide advice to the UK Parliament on electricity sector in Northern Ireland. She appeared in the House of Commons to discuss AES' response to the committee's consultation. Carla's involvement aligns with our efforts to work with governments to create a safe and sustainable energy system.

The invitation was based on an inquiry of the Northern Ireland Affairs Committee on the current and future status of electricity in the region. The committee also wanted to understand the role of generators in the electricity system. Questions revolved around security of supply from 2020, impact of the increasing role of renewable sources of energy as well as transparency of generator profitability. The committee held particular interest in AES' energy storage projects in Kilroot and Ballylumford.

You can view the recording of the Parliament inquiry here.

OUR PEOPLE ARE OUR ENERGY
AES people at Alto Maipo initiate book drive
for children

AES people at our Alto Maipo construction project in Chile, part of the Andes SBU, donated books to the nearby Los Maitenes School benefitting 15 students from grades one to six. The idea started with AES people in the plant wanting to provide school materials to the children. In addition to the book drive, AES people will enhance the electrical system of the school to improve safety and reduce Los Maitenes' electricity use. The team will also install a heating system. Moving forward, our people at Alto Maipo will conduct engagement activities for the students to emphasize the value of education and the importance of staying in school.

ALWAYS ON FOR SAFETY
Shadi Aghwani is Always On for Safety

Shadi is a Mechanical Engineer with the Maintenance Department at our Amman East plant in Jordan, part of the Europe SBU. He was member of the first safety committee of Amman East and part of the team that won the company's Golden Hard Hat Award in 2010. For Shadi, the most effective way to spread our safety culture is to understand the work our people do first, and then create awareness of safe behaviors and work practices. "To improve the working environment, people must follow all operational and maintenance procedures," explained Shadi.

Shadi always puts safety first. As an operations and maintenance team member, he is committed to implementing and improving AES' health, safety and environment management system. He says that what motivates him to be Always On for Safety is his family, which includes his colleagues because he considers them family. He constantly strives to improve the working conditions of his work area for his AES colleagues and contractors. "I am committed to add value to the safety management system at my site to achieve zero LTIs, not only in Jordan but across AES," said Shadi.

Thank you, Shadi, for always making safety a priority from the moment you joined AES eight years ago. You are a great example of an AES person who is Always On for Safety.
