Accelerate Global Sourcing Opportunities
To be an energy star means challenging ourselves to improve the way we do things. The Global Operations Support team is currently working on the Accelerating Global Sourcing Opportunities work stream which involves taking advantage of our economies of scale to create a strategic approach to our sourcing activities. The team is starting their efforts with the global harmonization of the Supply Chain processes, policies and systems of choice, leveraging on its fundamental key relationship and dependency with our operations via the Asset Management Acceleration work stream. Both Asset Management and Global Sourcing work streams are closely interconnected in enabling AES to be a world-class operator and energy star.
In an interview with AES Vice President for Global Operations Support and work stream leader, Evaristo Leonardi, he said that the work stream enables us to achieve full visibility and transparency to our Non-Fuel Procurement with a target to be able to see out 48 months or four years in advance. "By improving our planning process and forecasting our non-fuel requirements and spend for the next three to four years, we are able to aggregate our demand on a regional and global level. This means managing Categories (aggregate bidding) and Portfolios of spend (leveraging on current contracts and relationships with our key suppliers) to seal better prices, and terms and conditions for AES." Since we've started aggregating our demand, the teams in the SBUs and Arlington have saved more than US $25M to date in OpEx and CapEx savings versus budget. All the associated transactions are identified in our systems of records providing the appropriate back up to each deal and transaction the teams close. The target for this year is to save US $40-60M in savings representing three to four percent of our total annual spend.
