Greetings!
During Safety Day, we all come together to celebrate our first value, Safety. A person doesn't need extraordinary abilities to be a safety hero. When it comes to safety, being a hero means you're looking out for yourself, your team mates and your family, on the job, at home and in the community.

A Message from COO Bernerd Da Santos: Becoming an Energy Star in Operations
The future is bright for AES as we work to become an energy star. As Andrés mentioned in his message, we are taking action now to benefit us for tomorrow through the Energy Star program. The benefits come in many forms. We will be able to move more quickly to take advantage of the opportunities that arise within the markets we operate. Our existing businesses will run even better than they do today. AES will be a better place to work while becoming a stronger and even more resilient company.
Recognizing our potential will not only require us to change how we work, but how we are organized. Today, I wanted to share more information about how the refinements we're making to how we manage our market-facing resources and our operations are in line with that objective. These refinements are possible now because of the work you've helped us accomplish over the last few years to mobilize our six market-facing SBUs.

Monthly Safety Message from COO Bernerd Da Santos
On Safety Day each year, our 21,000 AES people around the world Stop Work to celebrate our first Value, Safety, and reflect on the progress we've made and the work we still have ahead of us to create and sustain a workplace free of incidents.
We haven't reached our ultimate goal yet. After years of improvement in our safety metrics, we continue to experience injury-related incidents and fatalities. We have the tools in place to make our goal a reality. It's up to each of us to use those tools by going back to the safety basics. That's why we're asking you to be a safety hero.
It doesn't take super powers or a cape to be a safety hero. A hero is known for their courage and good deeds. When it comes to safety, that means you are looking out for yourself, your teammates and your family, on the job, at home and in the community. Today, I wanted to share not only how you can be a hero, but how some of our people and facilities are already acting as safety heroes.

Energy Star IT work stream accelerates efforts
We say it often, but our people really are our energy. Our Energy Star program uses the star power of our people to find ways that we can take action today to benefit our tomorrow. One of the Energy Star program work streams includes the IT Efficiency work stream. The project team is responsible for identifying and implementing ways that technology can drive business value. The project team accelerated their efforts by collaborating together through weeklong workshops in Arlington to address each of their key areas. At the end of the week-long effort, the team prepared recommendations that will be presented to the steering committee for review and approval in the coming weeks. By bringing a diverse set of experiences together the team was able to speed up their project work. As we look ahead, it will be the power of our people that energizes us to become an energy star.

2016 SAFETY DAY
Beyond the capes and the masks, the real heroes are the AES people who are Always on for Safety.
