In the Europe SBU, AES Netherlands was ranked 27 on the list of the Best Workplaces in the Netherlands for 2016. The list of Best Workplaces is compiled annually by Great Place to Work Netherlands based on responses to a questionnaire of 58 statements and an evaluation of the employers' policies and practices.

APEX AWARD WINNERS
Early Boiler Leak Detection

At this year's 2015 APEX Global Awards, 17 projects were presented as examples of successful performance excellence efforts in the company. Our third place winner in the replication category was a project from Costa Complex in the Andes SBU: Early Boiler Leak Detection. The award was accepted by Sebastián Febre. AES Argentina's San Nicolas plant was utilizing early detection software for the prevention of boiler leaks. The Costa Complex in Chile also had the same groundwork and recognized the potential savings that could be made. Early detection has many advantages including identification of rupture areas, lower catastrophic failure probability, earlier planning for rupture repair and minimizing the economic impact of the generating units' loss. Numerous tests of possible scenarios were conducted in the Boiler Leak Tube Detection (BLTD) system to avoid any false positives and to validate system prognoses. With successful implementation, tube repair time was reduced from five to three days due to reduction in affected tubes and the quick location of the failure areas. Compared to previous ruptures before and after implementation of BLTD, there was a savings of 26 GWh of generation valued at US $1M. Congratulations to everyone for their commitment to operational excellence.
ALWAYS ON FOR SAFETY
Maeve McSparron is Always On for Safety

Maeve works in the Procurement Department at AES UK & Ireland, part of the Europe SBU. She has been with AES since June 2015. In her relatively short tenure with the company, she has shown a strong commitment to safety. When Maeve is working on different projects she puts safety first and gives priority to health and safety in the procurement process. For example, she recently took the lead procurement role related to the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) contract at both Ballylumford and Kilroot working with EHS, internal customers and the vendor.
