Teamwork results in US $23.6B in risk reduction

Risk can be defined as the likelihood of an occurrence versus the consequence to the exposure to a hazard. The Global Insurance Risk Engineering team, consisting of Justin Voss, Ken Sun and Ronald Woodfin, manage a program to reduce the risk of property loss and business interruption among AES businesses around the world. To assist in this program, the team sought the expertise of the Global Risk Consultants (GRC) to perform consultative risk assessments at each AES business.

GLOBAL AWARD WINNERS
Meet Emiliano Chaparro, 2015 Founders Award winner

The AES Founder's Award was established to honor our founders and the fundamental impact they had on our industry. The award is given to individuals who demonstrate innovative spirit by identifying opportunities to improve how we do things. Emiliano Chaparro, Argentina Commercial Director of the Andes SBU, was a second recipient of the Founders' Award. Emiliano has made invaluable contributions to our business by innovating and finding new opportunities to expand AES in Argentina and across the region. He developed a secondary trading market leading to additional sales of $20.2M, sold fly and bottom ashes from CTSN to save the company $1.5M, and secured a PPA market leadership position for TermoAndes. ALWAYS ON FOR SAFETY
Darcio de Souza Dias is Always On for Safety

Darcio is a Technical Services and Network Performance Manager at AES Eletropaulo and serves as a Safety Champion at his work location. He puts safety first as the foundation for his relations with the community and other AES people. For example, Darcio performs Safety Walks to prevent incidents by helping people identify and address hazards in the workplace. Recently, during a Safety Walk with a contractor team who was performing a network expansion service, he observed an unsafe situation. "I realized there was a lot of traffic including heavy vehicles, and the signs used by the team were not enough to prevent incidents. There were trucks passing by and pedestrians walking around them," explains Darcio.
