LEADERSHIP MATTERS
Monthly Safety Leadership Message

At the beginning of each year, it's important for each of us to renew our commitment to putting safety first before anything else that we do. Demonstrating our commitment means switching on and staying on for safety in 2016. When you switch on and stay on, you look out for yourself, your team members, your family, on the job, at home, and in your community. Your eyes and mind are on the task at hand. You stop work when you see something unsafe. These actions are proactive which is what being Always On for Safety is all about. When you are Always On, an incident won't surprise you because you will see the potential for something to happen and take action before it does. You prevent incidents before they happen. Our Eagle Valley construction project in Martinsville, Indiana recently committed to being Always On as a team and as individuals.
SPARK16
Becoming an energy star

Andrés Gluski, AES President and CEO, and the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) hosted Spark16, a global leadership webcast, to discuss how we can take action today to benefit our tomorrow. By streamlining how we work, leveraging economies of scale, synchronizing processes and replicating practices, we can realize our full potential and become AES energy stars. Andrés kicked off the presentation by discussing our accomplishments in 2015 and highlighted four key areas for us to focus on in 2016.
  1. Investing capital in line with our strategy;
  2. Executing on our construction pipeline;
  3. Achieving $150 million in cost savings and revenue enhancement, and;
  4. Engaging the star power of our people.

ALWAYS ON FOR SAFETY
World Health Organization declares Zika an international concern

Safety comes first for our people, contractors and the individuals in our communities. When people's health and safety is at potential risk, we aim to share information that you can use to protect yourself. Recently, the World Health Organization announced a Public Health Emergency of International Concern for Zika, an emerging infectious disease that is transmitted to people through mosquito bites and linked to neurological complications and birth defects. The most common symptoms of Zika are fever, rash, joint pain or conjunctivitis (red eyes). Other common symptoms include muscle pain and headache. Each AES person that lives in a country experiencing local transmission or planning to travel to such a country should be alert and vigilant in order to prevent infection. The best way to prevent Zika is avoiding mosquito bites.
David Gámez is Always On for Safety

David Gámez works at CAESS, a distribution company at AES El Salvador that serves more than 500,000 customers. He is a Maintenance Supervisor and has worked at CAESS for over two years. During this time, David has demonstrated a strong commitment to safety. One example was a recent project to relocate electrical networks as part of a new public transport system in San Salvador.  This project was challenging because of its urgency but David and his colleagues finalized the project in three days including night shifts, on time and safely.
