Brazil SBU boosts energy generation in Brazil
In mid-2015, Andrés Gluski, AES President and CEO, announced a restructuring of our companies in Brazil. Prior to the restructuring, AES held stakes in AES Tietê, AES Uruguaiana and AES Eletropaulo through a holding company called Brasiliana. The Brazilian development bank, BNDES, was our partner in Brasiliana. AES also separately owned AES Sul outside of the Brasiliana structure. Successfully completed in December 2015, the restructuring essentially split AES' ownership of Tietê from Brasiliana, but did not change AES' economic interest in any of its Brazilian businesses. AES now owns a stake directly in Tietê, and continues to own Eletropaulo and Uruguaiana through a new holding company structure. For AES Tietê, this restructuring has streamlined decision-making and allowed for greater flexibility for partnerships. It took years to achieve this milestone, and it would not have been possible without the effort and dedication of many people in Brazil and Arlington.
