Brazil SBU boosts energy generation in Brazil

In mid-2015, Andrés Gluski, AES President and CEO, announced a restructuring of our companies in Brazil. Prior to the restructuring, AES held stakes in AES Tietê, AES Uruguaiana and AES Eletropaulo through a holding company called Brasiliana. The Brazilian development bank, BNDES, was our partner in Brasiliana. AES also separately owned AES Sul outside of the Brasiliana structure. Successfully completed in December 2015, the restructuring essentially split AES' ownership of Tietê from Brasiliana, but did not change AES' economic interest in any of its Brazilian businesses. AES now owns a stake directly in Tietê, and continues to own Eletropaulo and Uruguaiana through a new holding company structure. For AES Tietê, this restructuring has streamlined decision-making and allowed for greater flexibility for partnerships. It took years to achieve this milestone, and it would not have been possible without the effort and dedication of many people in Brazil and Arlington.
CYBERSECURITY
Monthly Cybersecurity Message

Cybersecurity is an issue of safety that starts with our people. We must put safety first when leveraging the power of the Internet both at work and at home. I'd like to take this opportunity to recognize our Brazil SBU for reinforcing this message through their Information Security Day which took place this past November, as a part of their nine week Cyber Ninja Awareness Initiative. A main focus of Brazil's Information Security Day was the reinforcement of the AES Cyber Six, the top six cybersafety tips listed in the AES Cyber Ninja Guide. Please take a moment to give yourself a refresher on the Cyber Six to help keep AES safe and secure.

Earlier this week, Petter Jaffe, AES Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer, shared the latest Ethics and Compliance Newsletter. The issue includes a discussion on how Volkswagen succumbed to internal pressure, and Scott Goodhart answers four questions on cybersecurity and how AES people can help to protect AES from cyber breaches, and much more.
ALWAYS ON FOR SAFETY
Asel Ayapova is Always On for Safety

Asel works as a Turbine Project Manager at AES Ust-Kamenogorsk CHP, located in Kazakhstan, part of the Europe SBU. She has been committed to working safely over the past five years at the Turbine 12 construction project. Her efforts include using safety rovers from other plants for site monitoring, adding cameras to track progress online and monitoring compliance with safety regulations. Asel also organizes monthly Safety Stand Downs, involving not only AES people but all contractors. In these meetings, there are discussions of safety violations during the month and the corrective actions taken. She encourages contractors to achieve an incident-free work environment, especially now, when the number of people at the site is approximately 250 people.
