Bernerd Da Santos hosts Safety Pause calls

Following tragedies at sites in Brazil and at a construction site in India, AES COO and Senior Vice President Bernerd Da Santos implored all AES people to remember to "speak up when you see something unsafe" on this week's Safety Pause calls. These two tragedies prompted an immediate call to action by Bernerd who asked all of us to live our safety beliefs.

AES Dominicana, part of the MCAC SBU, was recognized as The Most Admired Corporation in the energy industry of the Dominican Republic from Mercado Magazine. With this most recent recognition, AES Dominicana has gained the honor eight consecutive times. Congratulations to the team as they work to improve lives with safe, reliable and sustainable energy solutions in the Dominican Republic.

AES receives PEX award for safety culture 

Earlier this week, AES was recognized with an honorary mention PEX (Process Excellence) award in the Most Innovative Approach to Driving Culture Change category. This recognition took place during PEX Week, a cross-industry annual event that presents case studies in operational excellence, strategic business transformation and continuous improvement. AES submitted a case entitled AES Corporation's 10-Year Journey to World-Class Safety Culture. The case describes the specific actions taken by AES to transform its safety culture from 2005 through 2014. Some of the highlights in the case include the creation of 32 Safety Standards, the avoidance of 646 serious incidents since 2006, the involvement of 929 people in protocol-based safety audits and the 92 percent reduction in LTIs since 2005 reflective of top 10 percent performance compared to US utility industry peers. 
AES Eletropaulo sponsors an exhibition on the history of electricity 

AES Eletropaulo, part of the Brazil SBU, is sponsoring an educational exhibition on the history of electricity for area residents in São Paulo. The Luzes da Cidade (Lights of the City) exhibition presents the evolution of electricity in São Paulo starting from the late 19th century to today. Components of the exhibition include a game introducing and comparing the consumption of electricity in a house in the 1970's and today, a crank displaying how electricity is generated, a video on smart grids and more. The exhibition will be open until April 30 in the subway stations in São Paulo.
AES Warrior Run hosts government leaders

AES Warrior Run recently hosted US Senator Ben Cardin and other local, state and federal government officials. The distinguished panel of government leaders toured the 10 MW facility and learned more about AES' leadership in battery energy storage. The energy storage facility at AES Warrior Run is the largest grid-scale battery in Maryland featuring Advancion 4, a complete battery-based alternative to peaking power plants that provides a dependable, smart and cost-competitive means to modernize power systems.

Marcos Buzo is Always On for Safety 

Marcos is a Maintenance Technician at AES Tietê, a generation hydro plant in Brazil. His proactive approach to safety-related issues is reflected in his daily activities. "I am aware and meticulous about every aspect of the activities being performed by the maintenance teams," Marcos said. Recently, Marcos identified that one of the teams were performing a service in unsafe conditions. He remembered that it is his right and obligation to stop work as soon as he sees a condition or behavior he considers to be unsafe.
