AES announces completion of the UK's largest battery energy storage array

Earlier today, AES UK & Ireland announced the completion of the Kilroot Advancion Energy Storage Array, located in Kilroot Power Station in Carrickfergus, Northern Ireland. The array provides 10 MW of interconnected energy storage, equivalent to 20 MW of flexible resource, and is the largest advanced energy storage system in the United Kingdom and Ireland, and the only such system at transmission scale. The array uses the Advancion 4 energy storage solution, a complete, battery-based alternative to peaking power plants that provides a dependable, smart and cost-competitive means to support a reliable, low carbon electricity system for the Northern Ireland economy. AES breaks ground on first battery energy storage array in the Philippines

AES recently broke ground on its battery-based energy storage array at Masinloc in Zambales, which will provide 10 MW of interconnected capacity and enhance the reliability of the Luzon grid. The Masinloc array will use the Advancion energy storage solution, and is expected to be completed by mid-2016. It will be one of the first advanced energy storage installations in Southeast Asia and among the largest in Asia. AES Asia Strategic Business Unit President, Marty Crotty, and AES Philippines Managing Director, Neeraj Bhat, led the groundbreaking ceremony on December 15, 2015.

DPL Inc. announces sale of its competitive retail electric service business 

Earlier this week, we announced the sale of DPL's competitive retail business in Ohio, known as DPL Energy Resources (DPLER), to IGS Energy, an Ohio-based retail supplier of natural gas and electricity. Identifying a buyer with a similar business philosophy was important to us. IGS Energy shares the AES philosophy of offering superior, customer-focused service and IGS Energy has extensive retail operating experience in competitive electricity markets.

AES UK & Ireland launches first sustainability report

AES UK & Ireland recently launched its first sustainability report in accordance with the Global Reporting Initiative standards, the globally accepted standard for reporting sustainability activities. The report outlines their performance for 2014 - 2015 in five key areas including financial excellence, operational performance, environmental performance, stakeholder engagement and our people. ALWAYS ON FOR SAFETY
Eagle Valley is Always On for Safety 

The Eagle Valley construction project in Martinsville, Indianapolis started 2016 by recommitting to staying Always On for Safety. On January 4, the first work day of the new year, all AES people and contractors at the site, signed a written commitment making a personal pledge to AES' first value of safety. Scott Miller, Director of the Eagle Valley construction project, said "We are starting our first work day of 2016 by signing commitments and a safety stand up to get us ready for the challenges of the new year."
