Announcing the 2015 AES Global Awards

AES is energized by you. Your energy sets us apart from other companies and makes it possible for us to improve millions of lives every day by providing safe, reliable and sustainable electricity. Every year, we take the opportunity to recognize our people who set themselves apart with our highest honors, the AES Global Awards. The awards honor people who have had the biggest impact in the areas most important to us. Our 2015 winners will join our past honorees that have made notable contributions to shaping AES into the company it is today. Nominations for our 2015 awards are now open and I'm pleased to invite you to recognize the AES people you work with who are bringing the most energy to what they do.

AES Philippines receives CSR award

AES Philippines received the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Excellence Award in the corporate governance category from the People Management Association of the Philippines (PMAP) Foundation. The CSR Award honors organizations in the Philippines that have integrated, embedded and sustained their CSR program as an integral part of their business operations. This award recognized AES Philippines for honoring commitments to its stakeholders with the Masinloc training facility project. The project is a community-based training program in partnership with Public Employment Service Office (PESO) of Masinloc, Zambales and in coordination with the Philippine Technical Educational and Skills Development Authority (TESDA). It aims to provide out-of-school youth and residents with the skills and knowledge they need to start their own businesses and to increase their employment opportunities both within and outside of Masinloc.
AES Brazil recognized as a model sustainability company

AES Brazil is one of the model companies in Exame's Sustainability Guide which identifies the most sustainable companies in Brazil on an annual basis. This year, 210 companies were analyzed and 68 companies from 21 sectors were chosen as sustainability models. In the electrical energy sector, AES Brazil was one of only seven companies selected. In order to be part of the selection process, companies fill out an extensive questionnaire on the management and governance practices adopted by the company. The data is analyzed by a committee of experts on the subject, which also assesses the company's reputation. Congratulations to the team at AES Brazil for delivering on our mission and serving as a model company.
Creating efficiencies with insurance consolidation project

We continually strive for excellence in all that we do and this includes seeking comprehensive insurance cover with suitable insurers in the most efficient way. The insurance coverage we purchase transfers the risk from our balance sheet and helps enable our growth. It supports the financing of our assets and allows us to manage our exposure during construction and operations. A key type of insurance we procure is third party liability insurance which helps to protect AES from loss exposures arising from damage to an external group's property or injury to a non-AES person. An example would be covering the liability of a slip and fall incident by a non-AES person visiting one of our sites. Third party liability insurance is the second highest operational global insurance cost to AES after property insurance. The most efficient way for AES to obtain this coverage is by combining our purchasing power and using our collective leverage to negotiate with the insurance market.

AES UK & Ireland hosts ministerial visit to Kilroot Power Station

Recently, AES hosted a Chamber of Commerce Minister on the Move event with special guest Mark Durkan, Northern Ireland's Environment Minister. The Minister emphasized the importance of his plans for a better environment, a stronger economy and cited AES Kilroot as a clear demonstration of how companies can and must work hand in hand with the environment. He also shared that AES is one of a select number of companies personally chosen by him to work with the Northern Ireland Environment Agency to develop a Prosperity Agreement, designed to deepen understanding and align environmental and business priorities. Only companies that are environmentally responsible and go beyond compliance are eligible, and the AES UK & Ireland EHS team has helped ensure our eligibility for this prestigious program.
