Company Confidential

Greetings!

The energy that AES people bring to what they do enables our success, but what energizes them? It's our Values: put safety first, act with integrity, honor commitments, strive for excellence and have fun through work. They're at the very core of our ability to improve lives, execute on our strategy and be the best world-class company in the industry. It's our people, Energized by Our Values, that sets AES apart from other companies.

Every year, AES people take time to reflect on our Values which define how we work together to deliver on our mission of improving lives by providing safe, reliable and sustainable energy solutions in the markets we serve. Over the next week, many AES businesses will be conducting their own Values Day event at their location. Recaps of how our businesses celebrated our Values will be provided in future issues of the Spotlight

AES releases 2014 Sustainability Report

For AES people, how we accomplish our successes and deliver electricity is as important as the services we provide. Our actions are guided by the goal of building a sustainable future while meeting today's need for safe and reliable energy. That's why one of our strategic objectives is to be recognized in the top quartile of corporate social responsibility and sustainability rankings. Earlier this year, we announced that we were named to the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) for North America for the second year in a row. We just released our 2014 Sustainability Report as part of these efforts. With an introduction from Andrés Gluski, AES President and CEO, our report summarizes our efforts and performance in 2014 and helps our stakeholders understand how we manage important economic, social and environmental issues. The report covers 13 material issues in five key areas: Financial Excellence, Operational Excellence, Environmental Performance, Stakeholder Engagement and Our People. Click here to read the report in full. We will feature key facts from the report in upcoming Spotlight issues.
AES Gener included in the Dow Jones Sustainability Chile Index

AES Gener is the first and only generating company in Chile to be included in the Dow Jones Sustainability Chile Index (DJSI Chile Index), the country's first sustainability index launched by the Santiago Stock Exchange and the S&P Dow Jones Indices. The DJSI Chile Index is the first of that kind as it uses the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices as a method for calculation. It is also the first one based on Índice de Precio Selectivo de Acciones (IPSA), a stock market index composed of the 40 stocks with the highest average annual trading volume in the Santiago Stock Exchange. To be included in the DJSI Chile, certain sustainability criteria must be met, which are set by the Total Sustainability Score, calculated by using the annual RobecoSAM Corporate Sustainability Assessment. According to the calculation method, the index in Chile is composed of 12 of the 40 companies currently participating in the IPSA.

INNOVATION
2015 AES Innovation Congress Award Winner Spotlight

Presenter and author Nawazish Awan and co-author, Damon Tohill, received first place in the Operational Excellence category with the project: Stopping Construction Quality Defects from 'Falling through the Cracks'. A 1,200 MW plant project began operation in May 2015 six months ahead of schedule based in large part due to the procedures for work quality assurance and control created during construction. The AES Construction Management Team lacked confidence that the official EPC contractor would correct the full list of actual punch list items at the construction site so the team took a course of action not previously performed at AES construction sites. They hired an independent and experienced company, with fresh eyes and specialized skills, to audit all completed work in the facility to ensure they complied with the applicable contractual terms or standard and code requirements.
