Bernerd Da Santos emphasizes contractor safety on recent Safety Pause calls

Earlier this week, Bernerd Da Santos, AES Senior Vice President and COO, hosted a Safety Pause call for all AES people in English, Spanish and Portuguese (access archived calls here). On the 30-minute calls, Bernerd recognized everyone's attention to safety and noted the increase in safety inspections throughout the company, which are crucial to safety management. During the last 12 months, the LTI rate among AES people has decreased by 9.9 percent. However, the LTI rates for operational contractors and construction contractors increased by 54.4 percent and 188 percent, respectively. Since the last Safety Pause, the company has had 21 Significant Incidents and Potentials (SIPS) with four involving AES people and 17 involving operational and construction contractors.
AES UK & Ireland welcomes New York politicians

New York Assembly members Amy Paulin and Brian Kavanagh toured Kilroot Power Station in Northern Ireland to learn more about how AES is improving lives with energy storage. Amy and Brian are part of a US delegation to encourage learning and trade between the two countries. The Kilroot Advancion energy storage array is part of the AES 10x10 initiative to accelerate installation of energy storage in our markets, and will be the largest battery project in the UK and Ireland when it comes online at the end of 2015. AES receives communications recognition

AES received recognition from the Negócios da Comunicação magazine as the Best Company Concerning Communication with Journalists, in the category of Electrical Energy, throughout Brazil. The recognition was based on survey results from 25,000 journalists. AES received high marks for the best disclosed content, best services for communications and press relations, among other things. This recognition is unique because there are no pre-defined options--journalists had to cite an actual company and they chose AES. Brazil's achievement is also very important since it reflects our relentless approach to living our Values: acting with integrity and honoring commitments in the way we communicate.
INNOVATION
2015 AES Innovation Congress Award Winner Spotlight

Presenter Wagner Pimenta along with authors, A.A. Lima, A.M. Almeida, A.C. Coloni, Rogerio Pereira Jorge, M.A.M. Martinelli and H.P. Castro Jr., received third place in the Operational Improvement category with the project: Data Mining Helps AES Eletropaulo Capture Fraudsters and Recapture Revenue from Broken Meters. AES Eletropaulo developed and implemented a program that used its Energy Management System (EMS) to identify fraud in the measurement system and more efficiently repair damage caused by equipment failures, short circuits and power overload - all of which lead to revenue loss. By identifying irregularities in data from electricity meters through the EMS, AES Eletropaulo targeted locations where criminal fraud was likely and engaged the police in the investigations.
