AES supports knowledge transfer workshops

AES Dominicana, part of the MCAC SBU, and Corporación Dominicana de Empresas Eléctricas Estatales (CDEEE) joined efforts to implement a training program for the technical staff that will be working at the Punta Catalina Thermal Power Plant. The Punta Catalina project will begin with the construction of a 720 MW thermal power plant, featuring two 360 MW units, to generate power from burning powdered mineral coal, led by CDEEE and the Dominican government. Training sessions totaled more than 720 hours and were carried out at the premises of Itabo Power Plant with the purpose of transferring knowledge through real-time internships while the power plants were in operation.
INNOVATION
2015 AES Innovation Congress Award Winner Spotlight

Presenter and author Natali Altimari along with co-author, Susana Lezcano, from AES Panama, received first place in the Market and Organizational Engagement category with the project: AES Panama Offsets Drought by Firing Up a Thermal-Generation Plant on a Barge. During 2013 and 2014, Panama experienced its driest period in 47 years, with hydrology inflows 30% below historical average. Lower hydrology had a direct and negative impact on AES Panama because our five plants with 705 MW of installed capacity produced energy solely through hydro power. AES Panama secured immediate electricity needs during a period of low hydrology through an innovative solution - acquiring, transporting and installing a 72 MW thermal generation barge off the shore of its Bahia Las Minas substation.
