Andrés Gluski named to US-India CEO Forum

Last month, Andrés Gluski, AES President and CEO, was appointed by the US Department of Commerce to serve on the US section of the US-India CEO Forum. The CEO Forum is a public-private initiative to enhance bilateral trade and investment between the US and India. The Forum provides the opportunity for member companies to jointly discuss issues of mutual interest and provide recommendations to high-level government officials from both countries in several key areas including trade and investment, fostering innovation, developing a skilled workforce and enabling rapid and secure movement of goods. Our generation business in India consists of OPGC, located in the State of Odisha, as well as the OPGC 2 platform expansion project, which is currently under construction. We acquired 49 percent of OPGC in 1998, with the remaining 51 percent owned by the state. We are the only global power company with a continuous presence in India since 1992. BEHIND THE MWs
AES wins competitive bid process in Panama

The AES Corporation and its subsidiary, Gas Natural Atlantico S. de R.L., has won a competitive bid process conducted by the Electric Transmission Company, SA (ETESA), the state's electric transmission company, to supply 350 MW of new capacity. The project will include the construction of a 350 MW combined cycle natural gas-fired plant with a 10-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), and a 170,000 m3 LNG storage tank and regasification facility, to supply gas to the plant, as well as to potentially serve growing demand for natural gas in Central America.

"Together with our local partner, Inversiones Bahia, we are very happy to announce that we were the lowest bidder for ETESA's 10-year PPA for 350 MW. We will construct a low emission combined cycle power plant, which will be fueled by LNG via the new regasification terminal on Panama's Atlantic coast," said Andrés Gluski, AES President and Chief Executive Officer. "Building a state of the art LNG regasification terminal near the entrance of the enlarged Panama Canal will enable Panama to become an energy hub for Central America and the Caribbean by supplying lower cost, reliable and sustainable fuel, which will benefit many sectors, including electricity generation, transportation and ship bunkering."

INNOVATION
2015 AES Innovation Congress Award Winner Spotlight

For the Customer Solutions and Business Structure category, there were two winners both related to AES Energy Storage:
  • Customer Models Sell Energy Storage. Praveen Kathpal and Brian Perusse, AES Energy Storage
  • AES Creates Breakthrough Battery Solutions for Energy Industry. Jay Geinzer and Isaiah Jefferson, AES Energy Storage
After discovering that even the biggest players in the industry lacked the financial and scientific ability to operate on a large enough scale to make a difference, AES decided to get into the energy storage business. The result was the Advancion architecture and system. Four generations of technology later, Advancion has resolved many of the issues involved in putting batteries and other alternative energy sources to work in large electrical power production and distribution facilities. Advancion removes the complexity that has made many utilities reluctant to use batteries. Virtually any utility of any size now can implement battery power at an affordable price without overly stressing its management and control systems. Advancion demonstrates the benefits of creating industry-wide solutions that can solve problems and generate revenue sources.
