The 2015 AES Innovation Congress is almost here
At AES, we innovate by finding new ways of working, delivering products and creating methods that deliver significant bottom line results for the company. Every two years, we recognize and celebrate the best innovations through the AES Innovation Congress. At this year's Congress, 61 projects were selected by representatives from each SBU from over 645 abstracts and 241 white papers submitted. These projects were submitted in five categories: Applied Technologies, Business Structure, Customer Solutions, Market and Organizational Engagement, and Operational Improvements. Ultimately, these ideas and projects allow us to better deliver on our mission of improving lives by providing safe, reliable and sustainable energy solutions. To preview these projects, click here to check out the 2015 AES Innovation Book which summarizes each of the projects. We also encourage you to review authors' original white papers available on the Outlet.

Felipe Cerón discusses energy interconnection between Chile and Argentina
Earlier this month, Felipe Cerón, Andes SBU President, participated in the distinguished panel, Energy Efficiency, Interconnection and Communities, organized by the Institute of the Americas, where the Chilean Minister of Energy, Máximo Pacheco, was also present. Felipe's presentation highlighted the benefits of the interconnection between the Great Northern Interconnected Grid (SING) and the Argentine Distribution Grid (SADI) through the transmission line AES Gener owns in the northern part of the country. By bringing different energy sources together, the interconnection contributes to energy diversification in both countries. Other distinguished panelists included Enrique Rodríguez-Flores, Senior Specialist in Energy with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), Enzo Quezada, Corporate Business Manager with E-CL S.A, and Rosa Serrano, Director of Studies and Regulation at Empresas Eléctricas AG.

IPL generating station compliant with US EPA rules
Indianapolis Power and Light's (IPL) Petersburg Generating Station recently reached an important milestone by being in compliance with the US Environmental Protection Agency's Mercury and Air Toxics Standards Rule (MATS Rule) on Units 1, 2 and 4 steam turbines. This is a significant milestone for the US SBU and IPL and will enable the plant to provide long-term power generation with greatly reduced emissions well beyond the next decade. AES' Engineering and Construction group oversaw the entire project with support from the Indiana Electric Partners and Owner's Engineer Black & Veatch, and the project was completed with no Lost Time Incidents (LTIs) over 1,612,000 man-hours and an OSHA Recordable Rate of 0.37. The installation of an ash containment system, a calcium bromide oxidation system, a wet sorbent system and a powdered activated carbon system on each unit was also completed under budget and on schedule. The conditions that the team had to perform under were adverse given the small area that the plant occupies, the number of personnel required to complete the installation in the area as well as performing the work concurrent with the plant in operation. The construction team is continuing their work on Unit 3, which will have these same systems installed and integrated in April 2016.

Interview with Geoff Ryan: Resourcing for Growth
This week we interviewed Geoff Ryan, Global HR Operations VP, to learn more about the Resourcing for Growth positions and why these jobs are excellent developmental opportunities for AES people.
We are currently recruiting for a series of business development and energy storage positions. Can you tell me how these positions will help us achieve our strategic objectives? As a company, we must move at the Speed of Light to identify ways we can leverage our platform, partnerships and innovation to capitalize on growth opportunities in the markets in which we operate. To execute on our long-term growth strategies, we need to resource the organization by identifying and developing our talent to take our business growth to the next level. We are achieving this through the creation of a number of new business development and energy storage positions in our SBUs globally that are focused on capitalizing on the growth opportunities within their respective markets. These business development opportunities require people with both technical knowledge and the drive and vision to grow our business. That's why our internal AES people make great potential candidates for these roles--they know our business and have what is necessary to take our business to the next level.
