Earlier this week, AES reported its first quarter 2015 financial results. In the first quarter, we generated Proportional Free Cash Flow of $265 million, which was double our results of a year ago, as a result of the recovery of working capital at a couple of our businesses. We earned $0.25 of Adjusted EPS, which was a $0.01 increase from the first quarter of 2014. We improved operating performance in our US and Andes Strategic Business Units, although we continued to experience headwinds from poor hydrology in Brazil and foreign currency devaluation in Latin America and Europe. During the quarter, our earnings benefited from our previous capital allocation decisions of paying down debt and repurchasing shares.

AES achieves commercial operation of Mong Duong 2 plant in Vietnam
We have more than 7,000 MW under construction coming online through 2018. This is the most MWs under construction in our history. By completing our construction projects on time, we can better position AES for the future. This week, we announced the successful commercial operation of 1,240 MW Mong Duong 2 plant in Vietnam six months ahead of schedule. This project serves as the largest private sector power project in Vietnam and the country's first new private sector power plant to be commissioned in the last ten years. "Bringing the 1,240 MW Mong Duong 2 plant on-line six months early is a significant milestone for Vietnam and for AES," said Andrés Gluski, AES President and CEO. "Executing on our 7 GW construction program is the main driver of our cash and earnings growth through 2018. Beyond Mong Duong 2, we see a number of potential opportunities for AES in Vietnam, to help meet their rapidly growing demand for electricity." |
