LEADERSHIP MATTERS

Technology and Services Organizational Announcement

Earlier this week, Elizabeth Hackenson shared some changes to her team to continue contributing bottom line results by helping to extend our business platforms and meeting changing customer demands as well as supporting the team's internal clients with innovative and sustainable solutions.

Highlights of the changes include:

  • A new name for the team, Technology and Services, to reflect the current organization and the value the group brings to AES.
  • With the growing risk of cyber crime, Scott Goodhart will focus solely on cybersecurity. As a result, global network operations will join Hugo Vasquez's team and Arlington Safety and Security team will join Office Services reporting to Galo Pazmino.
  • Chris Shelton's New Energy Solutions team will now include AES Performance Excellence (APEX) and the newly acquired AES Distributed Energy.
  • Fabian Souza and his team will embark on a number of new audits to include cybersecurity and sustainability reporting and launch Advisory Services to help leaders identify areas of improvement for their most relevant issues.
  • Hugo Vasquez to expand his role to Deputy CIO.

INNOVATION AT WORK

APEX project: Increasing Effectiveness in the Meters' Usage

At this year's 2014 APEX Global Awards, 15 projects were presented as examples of successful performance excellence projects across the company. One of the projects presented included, Increasing Effectiveness in the Meters' Usage, from AES Brazil.

AES Eletropaulo saved US $17M in 2014 through a Lean Six Sigma project optimizing meter usage. The first phase of the project was implemented in 2013 and reduced the number of meters removed by 20% through a focus on high impact and low effort initiatives.

AES named to World's Most Ethical Companies list

For AES people, how we accomplish our successes and deliver on our mission is as important as the services we provide. Ethics, integrity and compliance are the foundation and principles that guide our company and our people. The Ethisphere Institute, an independent center of research that promotes best practices in corporate ethics and compliance, honors superior achievement through The World's Most Ethical Companies recognition program. This program recognizes companies that truly go beyond making statements about doing business ethically and translate those words into action. Honorees not only promote ethical business standards and practices internally, they also exceed legal compliance minimums and shape future industry standards by introducing best practices today. This year's 132 honorees span 21 countries and five continents and represent over 50 industries. This was AES' second year in a row making the list.

SPEED OF LIGHT

AES Brazil is moving at the Speed of Light

Earlier this week, AES Brazil participated in SPARK15: Speed of Light, led by Bernerd Da Santos, AES COO and SVP, and Britaldo Soares, Brazil SBU President. The session, held at the SBU headquarters, reviewed our global results for 2014, our priorities and opportunities for 2015 and strategies we need to implement to move quickly to achieve our business objectives and goals. The interactive session prompted a lot of questions and discussion focused on how AES Brazil can innovatively tackle challenges, meet expectations and plan for the future.

COMMUNITY MATTERS

AES volunteers plant more than 100 palm trees along Panama's Caribbean coast

AES develops sustainable corporate social responsibility projects in every market we serve. In Panama, more than 30 AES volunteers and their families partnered with residents of Cativa, in the province of Colon, to plant more than 100 palm trees to improve the community's landscape. Cativa and its coastline are home to the Estrella del Mar I power generation barge. Estrella del Mar I will add 72 MW of gross capacity to Panama's energy grid and solidify AES position as the country's largest electricity provider.

AES provides training ground for local fire departments

Indianapolis Power & Light (IPL), part of the US SBU, partnered with the local municipality for a fire training program on IPL property adjacent to the Eagle Valley power plant coal yard. Around 40 firefighters from local fire departments took park in the controlled fire training exercise of an abandoned house. The abandoned residence was set for demolition for the combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) that will be built at Eagle Valley. Emergency medical staff and two ambulances were on site, and training was completed incident-free.
