Earlier today, AES reported its fourth quarter and full year 2014 financial results with Adjusted Earnings Per Share of $1.30 for full year 2014, an increase of $0.01 from full year 2013.

As you may know, Anthem, Inc., the US' second-largest health insurance company and the parent company of AES' health insurance provider in the US, recently experienced a data breach affecting up to 80 million customers. The incident at Anthem reminds us that we should always remain alert to suspicious looking messages that could possibly be phishing attacks. The following are a few reminders to help protect you and AES from falling victim to a spear-phishing attack.

Meet Amod Karkhanis, 2014 AES Phil Odeen APEX Award winner

  

Honoring Phil Odeen's commitment to innovation in striving for operational excellence, the APEX Award recognizes an individual for improving how a business works and performs through APEX. Amod Karkhanis was the recipient of this year's award recognizing his success in implementing continuous improvement projects to drive higher levels of performance at OPGC. He successfully mentored and facilitated different APEX teams over the last three years, and his efforts have had an impact. In 2013, the OPGC team ranked second place in the Asia SBU APEX competition and in 2014, the team ranked first. Through his leadership, the APEX culture has transformed OPGC.

APEX project: Energy Consumption Optimization

 

In 2014 alone, APEX translated into US $175M in benefits for AES. The improvements we've made help us to be a more sustainable company by taking our operational performance to new highs, minimizing our impact on the environment and strengthening our focus on our customers. Over the past few weeks, we've highlighted each of the 2014 APEX Global Award winners. Over the coming weeks, we'll also highlight the other outstanding projects that were presented at the 2014 APEX Global Awards. Our first project comes from AES Argentina, part of the Andes SBU, for its project, Energy Consumption Optimization.

AES El Salvador has established public-private partnerships to bring energy to thousands of families in rural areas that previously did not have access to this vital service, bringing the electrification rate in El Salvador up to 91.7%.

AES Eletropaulo's and AES Sul's recycling program recognized by Brazil's Ministry of the Environment

  

The recycling program at AES Eletropaulo and AES Sul was recognized by the Brazilian Ministry of the Environment as a Reference Practice for the Ministry's EDucaRES program and will be included in the practices database available online at the Ministry's website.

 

AES Gener inaugurates the Mejillones Sports Complex

  

AES Gener and the local municipality partnered to create the Mejillones Sports Complex. The community of Mejillones participated in a full day of sports to inaugurate the new complex. The premises are made up of one official size, two five-a-side and three seven-a-side synthetic grass football fields. The facility has locker rooms, bathrooms, an administration office and a first-rate lighting system. Two tennis courts and a multi-court were refurbished in the area adjoining the municipal stadium. Stands for the stadium were also built.
