On Monday, AES President and CEO, Andrés Gluski, participated in the Caribbean Energy Security Summit, held in Washington, D.C. Andrés participated in a panel that discussed overcoming barriers to investment in the Caribbean. Other efforts highlighted at the summit included support for improved governance, enhanced access to finance and increased donor coordination. As we begin 2015, I encourage you to spend a few minutes thinking about how you can make yourself and AES more cyber-safe in the New Year. Looking back at 2014, numerous multinational companies were targets of significant data breaches from retail stores to a major film studio. For each of these events, the costs are in the hundreds of millions of dollars along with reputational damage. As cyber threats continue to become more sophisticated and complex in 2015, you can help keep AES and your information secure by adhering to the following guidance.

Meet Teresa Vernaglia, 2014 AES Founders' Award winner

 

Whether it's taking advantage of new technologies or taking how we manage an area of our business to new levels, innovation and entrepreneurship have always been part of the way AES people work. Our Founders' Award recognizes individuals who demonstrate this innovative spirit by identifying opportunities to improve how we do things. Teresa Vernaglia, Distribution Market Business Leader at AES Brazil, is one of the recipients of the Founders' Award. As a result of her innovative spirit, dedication and leadership, Teresa helped improve AES Eletropaulo's image and credibility by improving the customer experience with innovative technology solutions and developing a customer-orientated culture among AES people.

AES Buffalo Gap wins second place at the 2014 APEX Global Awards

  

Each year, the best continuous improvement projects across the company are recognized through the APEX Global Awards. This year, AES Buffalo Gap, part of the US SBU, earned second place for its project, Ultrasonic Wind Measurement Integration.

AES wins Northern Ireland Business of the Year for corporate responsibility program

AES Jordan signs agreement for new solar project

 

Platform expansions create value within our businesses and better positions AES for the future. AES Jordan, part of the EME SBU, recently announced a platform expansion with a signed letter of intent (LOI) for a solar project up to 100 MW. The signing ceremony was attended by Japanese Prime Minister Mr. Sinjo Abe and Jordan Prime Minister Mr. Abdullah Ensour.

Greg Ewig is Always On for Safety 

 

Greg Ewig, Boiler Team Leader at AES Hawaii in the US SBU, is Always On for Safety. Greg contributes to safety initiatives at the AES Hawaii station and understands that being Always On for Safety sometimes requires going above and beyond. Read more for an example. One example: Greg had witnessed multiple near miss collisions at the front gate of the plant from speeding vehicles.
