BEHIND THE MWs

Light at the end of the tunnel

Lots of things can be found underground like streams, tree roots and even music. At AES, 90% of Alto Maipo, one of our construction projects in the Andes Strategic Business Unit (SBU), can also be found underground in a 67 KM tunnel system with two power caverns. The Alto Maipo project, located in Chile, is a 531 MW run-of-river hydro project comprised of two integrated run-of-river hydroelectric power stations: 264 MW Central Alfalfal II and 267 MW Central Las Lajas.
