BEHIND THE MWs

Improving Sustainable Practices in EMEA

Our mission is to improve lives by providing safe, reliable and sustainable energy solutions in every market we serve. One of our strategic objectives is to achieve top quartile in sustainability and corporate responsibility rankings to help us measure the success of our sustainability efforts. Sustainability is important to our mission as it allows us to deliver results that exceed our stakeholders' expectations today, while providing innovative resource management and infrastructure solutions to ensure we meet stakeholder needs in the future. Click "Read More" to review a case study that highlights how the Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) Strategic Business Unit (SBU) put together an action plan to implement improved sustainable practices in the region as well as help AES achieve its strategic objective.

TAKING IT TO THE NEXT LEVEL

The Asia SBU is taking their culture and operations to the next level

Over the last year, AES people around the world have been sharing their experiences about our culture - what works best and areas on which we should improve. In our Asia Strategic Business Unit (SBU), the culture survey results were cascaded to AES people across all levels in all business units and the Asia SBU office. Each cascade was immediately followed by a series of focus group discussions facilitated by local HR Leaders. The focus group discussions fostered open dialogue and in-depth analysis of the results of the survey.

COMMUNITY MATTERS

Communities near AES hydropower plants in Panama prepare to address risk scenarios

We put safety first for our people, our contractors and the communities we serve. As part of a proactive risk prevention plan for its hydropower plants, AES Panama conducted simulation exercises with the communities near its plants of Bayano and Esti.

More than 80 people representing AES, national safety institutions and the local governments of the districts of Chepo, in the province of Panama, and Gualaca, in the province of Chiriquí, participated in two separate simulations of potential disaster scenarios. The scenarios were designed to help assess emergency alert procedures, as well as determine emergency response capacity and coordination with government institutions.

ALWAYS ON FOR SAFETY

Ricardo Clayton Is Always On for Safety

AES Eletropaulo's electrician Ricardo Clayton is Always on for Safety. Ricardo warned his teammate and saved him from being in a potential incident. His team was working on the replacement of a burnt three-phase transformer. Ricardo was supporting the operation on ground and realized that one of the three connectors of the line was still on while his colleague was working on the transformer. He stopped his colleague in time and prevented him from touching the connector.
