Greetings!
AES held its Annual Meeting in Arlington, Virginia earlier today, April 17. At the meeting, Andrés Gluski, AES President and CEO, shared an update on our strategy for success and announced the publication of AES' first Sustainability Report. The report focuses on our sustainability efforts across the company in 2012 and the preceding three to five years.

CIO Cyber Security Message
With so much international media attention focused on cyberattacks and data breaches and the complexity of preparing for and responding to such incidents, I am reminded of a quote from Albert Einstein: "If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough." In the spirit of simplicity, I would like to devote this month's CIO cybersecurity message to explaining two AES Core Cybersecurity Guidelines that are being implemented globally to protect our people and our assets-and how you can apply these same principles at home to protect yourself and your family when enjoying the productivity and convenience of the Internet of Things.

On Tuesday, April 8, Andy Vesey, AES COO, was the keynote speaker at the Annual Platts Global Power Markets Conference in Las Vegas, NV. Platts Global Power Market provides a platform for exploring the issues crucial to the development of electric power markets worldwide. Every year more than 800 key industry executives come to learn from industry innovators, exchange ideas, and network with their peers.

Stop Work Authority in action at Redondo Beach
An AES technician at AES Redondo Beach, a generation facility in the US Strategic Business Unit (SBU), exercised their Stop Work Authority when a contractor foreman was working off a scaffold assisting with positioning a boiler tube from the outside of a Unit .The contractor positioned himself on his back, so his feet were up against the boiler tubes to get the boiler tube in position and he was pushing against the bottom rail of the wood part of the scaffolding.

AES Maritza honored with British Safety Council recognition
Putting safety first is a value and our highest priority. Our people working at AES Maritiza, part of the Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) Strategic Business Unit (SBU) recently received recogninition from the British Safety Council for their commitment to safety in the workplace. Both Maritza and Maritza Waste Disposal Facility received merit awards for their safety performance in 2013.

AES Dominicana achieves milestone with 100th natural gas tanker
Almost 11 years ago, AES Dominicana, part of the Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean (MCAC) Strategic Business Unit (SBU) expanded its facility at Andres, Boca Chica to include a port and the country's only storage tank for liquefied natural gas (LNG), which can hold up to 175,000 cubic meters. Earlier this month, the port welcomed its 100th ship, Tanker British Trader, carrying 135,000 cubic meters of LNG from Trinidad & Tobago.
