Greetings!
Yesterday, AES announced its fourth quarter and full year 2013 financial results. Andrés Gluski, our President and CEO commented, "In 2013, we achieved our key operational and financial goals and made significant progress on executing our strategy." Despite the challenges of dry hydrological conditions in Latin America and a provision related to potential customer refunds at Eletropaulo in Brazil, Adjusted EPS results for the year increased 7%, as a result of capital allocation decisions, lower global G&A and a lower than expected effective tax rate.
The press release and archived webcast are available online.

AES Huntington Beach makes a big splash
Earlier this month, members from our Executive Leadership Team (ELT) and senior leaders from our Strategic Business Units (SBUs) enjoyed a tour of Surf City USA's iconic AES Huntington Beach power plant, part of the US SBU. The ELT toured current operations of Units 1 & 2 and, the much-talked about, synchronous condensers that helped provide Southern California with a stable supply of electricity through voltage support last summer.

AES Eletropaulo and AES Sul reduce expenses with the Daylight Saving Time Operation in Brazil
AES Brazil's utilities, Eletropaulo and Sul, are cutting back on expenses during Brazil's Daylight Savings Time (DST). Designed to reduce electricity consumption, Brazil's DST began on October 20, 2013 and ended February 16, 2014. Customers of the 24 cities served by AES Eletropaulo have saved 130 GWh. In turn, AES Sul saw a reduction of about 4.5% on the demand, accounting for savings of 90 MW. |
