AES people are constantly implementing innovative ideas to solve complex issues, improve our operations and better serve our customers. At last month's global Congress on Innovation, Technical Excellence and Sustainable Practices the Energy Storage team took home first place in the Business Innovation category for their project: "Improved Commercial Availability, Lower Operating Costs, and Longer Asset Life through Proactive Management of Market Dispatch."
The project is a new type of control system that was designed, tested and placed into commercial operation for battery-based energy storage systems. The control system monitors conditions inside and outside the system and automatically implements an appropriate operating regime. The system, now two years old, as resulted in operational savings, higher availability and increased yearly revenues.

Charles Harrington Joins AES' Board of Directors
Earlier this week AES announced a new addition to the AES' Board of Directors. Mr. Charles (Chuck) Harrington, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Parsons Corporation has been appointed to the AES Board of Directors, effective November 1, 2013. Chuck has spent over 30 years with Parsons in various operations, finance and business development roles. He was appointed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and named Chairman of the Parsons Board of Directors in 2008.

US Strategic Business Unit Hosts AES Board of Directors
Last week, the US SBU headquarters in Indianapolis welcomed the AES Board of Directors and Executive Leadership Team (ELT). After spending the day in Dayton, Ohio, where they participated in the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new battery storage facility at Dayton Power & Light's Tait Generating Station, the group arrived in Indianapolis, Indiana last Tuesday.
