September COO Safety Message from Andy Vesey

Read the message from Andy Vesey focusing on the tragic accident that killed two AES contractors in Brazil. Andy summarizes the details of the incident and how we can prevent similar accidents from occurring
SAFETY FIRST
24X7 Safety

On Saturday, August 31 there was a tragic motor vehicle accident affecting four of our people from AES Sonel, fatally injuring two people and hospitalizing two others. Although this incident is non-occupational related and occurred outside of work hours, it is an unfortunate reminder of how important safety must be to each of us, both on and off the job.

PARTNERING WITH OUR PLANET
AES Brazil expands Recycle More, Pay Less Project

AES Eletropaulo and AES Sul are expanding their recycling program, Recicle Mais, Pague Menos (Recycle More, Pay Less).  New collection centers were recently opened in Barueri (metropolitan area of São Paulo) and São Leopoldo, in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. The project offers discounts on electricity bills in exchange for waste for recycling purposes.

BEHIND THE MWs
Building our competitve advantage in innovation; AES Innovation Congress set to kickoff September 18

In 2012, we initiated four high impact projects (HIPs) in support of our strategic direction to build our competitive advantages. The HIP called "Innovation-Solutions Deployment" was selected to find an organized way of sharing our learnings from both successful and unsuccessful product, technology and solution implementations.  The first worldwide AES Congress on Innovation, Technical Excellence and Sustainable Practices is scheduled will do just that by bringing people together from all levels of our businesses around the world to discuss best practices in place and ideas that can be replicated to drive business performance.

SAFETY IS OUR WAY OF LIFE

TRAVEL ADVISORY ISSUED

The situation in Syria is becoming increasingly unpredictable, the possibility of retaliation by the Syrian Government on neighboring countries following any internationally agreed use of military force in the coming days or weeks, remain high.

The travel restrictions include the following criteria for Jordan and Turkey

TOOLS YOU CAN USE

September is the start of flu season for much of the world. The single best way to protect against the flu is to get vaccinated each year in the fall. Help prevent the spread of the Flu, and other viruses by covering your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Also wash your hands often and stay home if you are feeling sick.
