Andy Vesey talks about an initiative to secure our workplace
The Global Security Initiative was created three months ago with the goal of supporting our mission by developing and sustaining a secure business and operating environment for our people and businesses around the world. Our global security operating strategy is designed to enable our SBUs and businesses to appropriately manage their security risk. In his message to AES people, Andy shares more about the initiative and its areas of focus.

 A WIN EVERY WEEK AES Brazil receives 2013 Abradee Award in the Management Quality and Social Responsibility categories On July 16, the Brazilian Association of Electricity Distribution Businesses (ABRADEE, the association's acronym in Portuguese) announced the 2013 ABRADEE Awards, recognizing the leading electricity distribution businesses in Brazil. AES Sul jumped from seventh to second place in the National Ranking, among the 29 companies with over 500 thousand customers, and AES Eletropaulo went from fifth to ninth place. The rankings are based on several criteria that measure customer satisfaction. AES Sul also received the 2013 ABRADEE Award in the Social Responsibility category and AES Eletropaulo ranked fifth in this area. AES Eletropaulo won the 2013 ABRADEE award in Quality Management. |

Young people and community members in Santa Maria to benefit from the newly opened AES POETA Jóvenes Center in Colombia
On June 25, AES Chivor in association with the Trust for the Americas Foundation and the Santa Maria Town Hall opened the new AES POETA Jóvenes Center. Located in Santa Maria in the Boyaca Department, the center is focused on helping young people gain valuable skills as they begin their careers and providing community members access to technology.The launch of the center was possible thanks to the support of AES Chivor, the Trust for the Americas, the Organization of American States, the Municipality of Santa Maria and Microsoft.

DPL's Don Gebele and Samantha Ahrman honored for their volunteer work with Junior Achievement
DPL's Don Gebele and Samantha Ahrman have been commended by Junior Achievement for volunteering their time and expertise in the classroom with area students. Both recently received certificates from the organization. As volunteers, Don and Samantha spend weeks in a Miami Valley classroom teaching students the key concepts of work readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy. The students, who range from kindergarten to 12th grade, also learn the value of contributing to their communities.

Work placement student, Hannah Crossey, graduates with honors in Northern Ireland
Hannah Crossey, a student working at our business in Northern Ireland, earned a First-class honours degree and was recognized with two prestigious awards at her recent graduation from Queen's University Belfast in Northern Ireland. AES Kilroot facilitated Hannah's Undergraduate Work Placement Year. During her placement, she worked in the Central Services HR Team and gained experience in providing a service for Kilroot and Ballylumford in Northern Ireland.

Tom O'Flynn visits the hydroelectric power generation plant in Barra Bonita, Brazil
On July 16, Tom O'Flynn, AES CFO, visited the hydroelectric power generation plant of Barra Bonita, as well as the Administrative Headquarters where AES Tietę's people are located. AES Tietę is AES Brazil's electricity generation business, located in the city of Bauru, State of Săo Paulo.
