Andrés joins Hispanic Business Leaders for a forum at the White House in Washington, DC
AES President and CEO Andrés Gluski was among one of the top Hispanic business leaders who participated in the first-ever Hispanic Business Leaders' Forum last week at the White House. The event, held in conjunction with the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC), focused on jobs and the economy. It engaged representatives from the private sector with top-level Administration officials in a dialogue about the most pressing issues affecting American businesses and how to collaborate more effectively to foster economic competitiveness, particularly in Latino communities.

COO Safety Message from Andy Vesey
On May 15, most of our people and contractors participated in our 12th Global Safety Day. Our theme this year, "Doing it right is doing it safely," focused on the importance of following the right procedures, using the right equipment and having the right mindset to help us ensure that every person goes home safely at the end of their work day. Andy's message highlights how businesses from each of our Strategic Business Units (SBUs) recognized Safety Day this year including the activities at AES Chivor (Andes), Mong Duong (Asia), AES Brazil (Brazil), Amman East (EMEA), AES El Salvador (MCAC) and DPL (US).

 Seeking a 'benchmark' rating, AES responds to prominent Dow Jones Sustainability survey By the close of 2017, AES aims to be recognized as a top quartile sustainable energy company. The company took another step recently in making that happen by responding to the prestigious Dow Jones Sustainability Index questionnaire. Maintained collaboratively by S & P Dow Jones and RobecoSAM, an investment specialist in sustainability, the Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA) survey measures the performance of the world's sustainability leaders. |
 PEOPLE MATTERS Young professionals at DPL give back to the local community There was plenty of energy and talent volunteered by DPL people, from our US distribution business in Ohio, at the 2013 "Get Out & Give Back Dayton!" event held last month. The program is an annual effort by Generation Dayton (GenD), a social/networking group of young professionals under the age of 40 from around the Miami Valley in Ohio. |
Lining up a connection between Chile and Argentina
At AES, we aim to leverage our electricity platforms and knowledge to provide energy and infrastructure solutions in our markets of choice. A project underway at AES Gener in Chile aims to do just that.

Kribi's historic gas-fired plant set for 'official launch'
Periodic blackouts experienced by some residents of Cameroon have ended, thanks to a new historic gas-powered plant in Kribi.
"The 13 generating sets of the gas-fired power plant are now available and running at full capacity in supplying, as per the demand, up to 216 MW to the AES-SONEL South interconnected grid," reported Hans Francis Simb Nag, General Manager for the Kribi Power Development Company (KPDC). "This is a crucial project. Before Kribi, the generation capacity for Cameroon was insufficient to satisfy the entire demand."

Studies have found that people using personal music devices, such as MP3 players, at high-volume settings for at least one hour a day risk permanent hearing loss after five years. The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association says to reduce the risk, use earphones that go over the ears rather than those that go in the ears, and only listen to music at lower than 50 percent of the maximum output level.
