New Redondo Beach Mayor: Let's work with AES
There's a new mayor in the town of Redondo Beach, California, and he says he'll continue working with AES and its plans for a new power plant on its current 50-acre Harbor Drive property.
Mayor Steve Aspel said his election and the defeat in March of Measure A, the citizens' initiative that would have banned power generation on the AES site, shows that Redondo Beach residents in general are concerned about more things than the new power plant that the energy company has applied for. AES has applied for a permit for a new plant from the California Energy Commission because the existing one uses an ocean-water cooling system that is being phased out by new regulations.
