Did you know that each month, AES communications people - both internal and external - share plans and ideas on an international Global Communications Council call hosted by AES headquarters in Arlington? This month's main topic for discussion was about the various activities businesses are planning for AES Safety Day on May 15.

AES leads Process Excellence Awards competition with five spots

When AES entered six projects and programs in this year's annual Process Excellence (PEX) European Awards competition, no one had any idea how many would be accepted. But to have all but one entry make it to the final 23 was way beyond anyone's expectations.

"Last year was our first time outside the business boundaries, and it was an incredible experience," said Arturo Matus, Distribution Director for AES. "AES Gener got a spot in one of the categories and won and AES Corporate was a runner-up in another category.

"So, this year we decided to send in six different projects and programs. We are very surprised that we got five spots. Everybody in the business and the team leaders are amazed, too."

Itabo III: Consolidating the diversity of the country's energy matrix

With the execution of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) by and between the Dominican Government and AES Dominicana for the construction of the Itabo III generation plant, what primarily has been a state priority is closer to reality. That priority, of course, is to get more cost-effective energy to reduce the deficit the country has regarding oil by-products. AES Dominicana is a strategic ally to helping the country achieve that goal.

DPL's Stuart Station gives the gift that keeps

on giving - blood

At AES, our mission is to improve lives by providing safe, reliable and sustainable energy solutions in every market we serve. Three times a year, DPL's Stuart Station people improve lives by volunteering to donate blood to the American Red Cross. Stuart Station has been holding blood drives for at least 36 years.

Stuart Station is a coal and diesel generator facility with a summer generating capacity of 2,318 MW located in Aberdeen, Ohio.

"We have three blood drives a year - spring, summer and fall," said blood drive organizer Katie Wallingford in Stuart Station accounting.

Katie said DPL's most recent blood drive "was very successful." They had 35 donors sign up and they collected 33 units of blood.

She said they have a dedicated group of donors who are there each time they hold a blood drive.

"The guys in coal handling always come through with a large number participating in each drive," she said.

Wes Newman, David Jones, Dairell Rowland, Kenny Ruckel, Wes Jones and Rocky Hamm are among the dependable donators, as well as Harry McCann, Doug McClellan and Ed Grooms.
