Happy 10th anniversary, AGIC!
Insurance team has got us covered

That sweet aroma of pancakes and maple syrup drifting from the 9th Floor Rotunda at AES in Arlington this morning could only mean one thing: the AES Global Insurance Company (AGIC) is celebrating its 10-year-anniversary. On this day in 2003, AGIC began insuring AES businesses.
Joe Meaney, for one, can attest to how far the department has come in those 10 years. Now the VP of Global Insurance, Joe has been part of the team for nine of them.

AES Gener, part of our Andes Strategic Business Unit, has signed a deal with a consortium of Japanese and Korean financial institutions to take on a loan of up to US $1 billion to build its Cochrane coal-fired thermoelectric plant in northern Chile. Construction on the 532 MW, $1.350 billion project in the mining-rich region of Antofagasta should start soon, AES Gener said in a filing to Chile's securities regulator SVS. The Cochrane plant is expected to come online in 2015.

SAFETY IS OUR WAY OF LIFE |

COO Safety Message from Andy Vesey
As you all are aware, we suffered two workplace fatalities in March. On March 11, a contractor at AES Sonel in Cameroon was crushed when the pole he was climbing collapsed. Two days later an AES person at AES Sul in Brazil was electrocuted when he contacted a live low voltage network cable. It was alarming to me that both of these tragic incidents happened during ordinary every day work tasks, and I used my stop work authority to start a companywide discussion about what we need to do to prevent another tragic incident.
Starting on March 14, AES people and contractors stopped what they were doing to stand down and talk about what we can do to increase the safety of our workplaces. These discussions included 22,302 AES people and 20,302 contractors - representing 88% of AES people and of our contractor workforce.

Tricking Time
|
Ever want to slow down the clock because you have so much to do before you can go home? Here's one way to trick time: Finish simple tasks. Always complete easy tasks, like reading a memo; never switch between small projects. "The mind holds only about seven pieces of information at a time," says Carnegie Mellon psychologist David Creswell. "If you switch to other tasks, those pieces of information get scrambled and need to be relearned." In other words, don't try to do two simple tasks at once.
