AES Eletropaulo Receives Accolade for Its "Luz e Lápis" Initiative

At AES, we improve the lives of millions of people around the world every day. AES Eletropaulo recently was recognized for its efforts to help young children through its "Centro Educacional Infantil Luz e Lápis" initiative. The initiative won the "Prêmio Criança 2012" award from Fundação Abrinq, a Brazilian foundation dedicated to the rights of children and teens. Every two years, the award identifies and acknowledges the best projects targeted at children ages 0 to 6 years.

"This recognition is strongly aligned with our Sustainability Platform and positively affects the company's image," said Ricardo Silvarinho, Executive Director of Human Resources for AES Brazil and Chairman of Luz e Lápis.
LEADERSHIP MATTERS

COO Safety Message from Andy Vesey

Recognition is one of the key elements of our safety culture and is an integral part of our working culture at AES. Recognizing people and teams for a job well done reinforces desired behaviors that will help us create a world class safety culture and an incident-free workplace.

There are many ways to recognize these behaviors. A motivational acknowledgement can be as simple as a "pat on the back" from your leader or a kind word from a co-worker. It can also be as formal as an award within AES or from an outside authority. We all want our work and efforts to be valued. Praise and recognition communicates the value of what our people do right and I encourage us all to use it.

Have You Completed Your Safety Perception Survey?

On February 25, 2013, the Safety Perception Survey was kicked off. If you have completed the survey, thank you for taking the time to give us input. If you haven't already, please click here to take the 2013 AES Safety Perception Survey now.

At AES, safety is our first value. This is why AES has put in place a global initiative to ask AES people, construction and operations contractors to share their input about safety through a survey. An important goal of this initiative is to help AES measure the progress made during the 3-Year Safety Action Plan. The information gathered will be used to develop future actions and programs to continuously improve our safety culture and safety performance.

The survey will be available until March 24, 2013. It is anonymous and available in English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, Vietnamese, Turkish, Bulgarian and Russian. Your input is important. Please take time to complete the survey. Remember, safety is our way of life.
