FUELING QUALITY OF LIFE
AES El Salvador Provides Opportunities for At-risk Youth

AES El Salvador is contributing to the well-being of its communities by building a skilled workforce from the ground up in the AES-POETA Center. Through a combination of technical training and instruction in core company values, AES El Salvador is helping to address the challenge of unemployed and undereducated youth while enhancing the company's own ability to recruit highly skilled people in the future.

Starting in 2011, AES invested $43,000 to partner with The Trust for the Americas to establish the AES-POETA center and the Programa POETA Jóvenes (POETA youth program) in the municipality of Soyapango, a high-crime area in the San Salvador metropolitan area. AES affiliate CAESS distributes energy in Soyapango and has a commercial office near the AES-POETA center, making the municipality an ideal location to provide social outreach to AES' constituents and offer local youth an alternative to gang membership and violence.
