Dear AES People,
We started 2012 with a renewed purpose and reason to be energized about going to work. Each and every day in all of our communities around the world, we have a positive impact on more than 100 million people through the services we provide, the care we give our customers and the investments we make in the well-being of the local communities in which we operate. We came together as a company this year and aligned against our mission to improve lives by providing safe, reliable and sustainable energy solutions in every market we serve.
| |
| Earlier this year, we set our strategy to leverage our existing businesses while using global scale, synergies and knowledge to drive our performance to higher levels. We also established shared goals by which we intend to measure our results through achieving top-quartile rankings as a “great place to work” and in “sustainability and corporate social responsibility” while generating superior returns for our shareholders, and ways to build our competitive advantages. Looking back over the year, how did we do in 2012?

A WIN EVERY WEEK: DP&L RECEIVES EXCELLENT AUDIT RESULTS
To achieve long-term competitive advantage, AES has been focusing on operational excellence as one of the ways in which we can leverage our platforms. Our successes in driving improved operational and commercial performance have not gone unnoticed.
Dayton Power and Light (DP&L), our utility in Ohio, has received excellent results from the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) audits conducted in December 2012—including a rating of having an excellent culture of compliance.

BEHIND THE MWs: PLATFORM EXPANSION IN JORDAN
On December 17, AES in Jordan entered into a new power purchase agreement (PPA) and finance agreement for a platform expansion deal. This accomplishment aligns strategically with AES’ business definition—Leveraging our electricity platforms and knowledge to deliver energy and infrastructure solutions in our markets of choice.
Indeed, the new “Manakher” project is a 250 MW Peaking Power (IPP4) platform located adjacent to our existing Amman East Project site. The Amman East Project is a 370 MW Combined Cycle Power Project and was the first AES investment in Jordan.

SAFETY IS OUR WAY OF LIFE: MAJOR SAFETY MILESTONE RECOGNIZED IN MEXICO
At AES, we put safety first and we recognize our businesses who achieve significant safety milestones in their operations. AES TEG-TEP, one of our generation businesses in Mexico, achieved a significant safety milestone on November 30, 2012. The team worked 2,000,000 man-hours without any AES or contractor recordable or lost time incident (LTI) injuries. The team achieved this milestone by incorporating our company’s safety philosophy to make safety our way of life into their tasks and duties, sharing their methods with onsite contractors and implementing safety tips at home.
