2014 State Scholar Bowl Champ

Congratulations to our HHS Quiz Bowl Team for winning the 2014 MSHSAA State Championship at MU on Saturday! After winning a very stressful championship match on May 4 at the NAQT Small School National Championship, the team had only five days to prepare for the State Scholar Bowl Championship on May 10. On Saturday, they played Kirksville, Notre Dame (Cape Girardeau) and Barstow during the preliminary rounds. The team went 3-0 and was the number one seed based on total points.
The team beat Eldorado Springs 640-150 in the semi-finals while Savannah beat Priory. They then played Savannah in the championship game. They were trailing by 70 points at half-time but put together their best third quarter of the tournament to take the lead going into the fourth quarter. Savannah came right back and took a 50 point lead with only half the quarter to go. The Hallsville team fought their way back and tied the game on the last question of the match. The game went into overtime and the first team to get three correct answers wins. Savannah got the first question of overtime and Hallsville followed up with three in a row to win the 2014 MSHSAA Class 3 State Championship.

MAP testing went off without a hitch! We had excellent attendance, good attitudes and proud teachers. Those scores will come back to us early fall and will be sent home as soon as possible. Thanks to everyone for an awesome Teacher Appreciation Week! We were well fed and hydrated!! Our Honor Choir performance was wonderful last Wednesday and well attended.
| | Moving On Up to Second Grade |
This week, we welcome the first graders with a tour and a video introduction to second grade called Moving On Up! Wednesday is our End of Testing Ice Cream Sundae Celebration. Kids earned tickets during testing for good attitudes, attendance and effort. These tickets equal ice cream toppings. This week is a busy one with field trips, fourth grade Aquatic Day and the third grade tradition of the Dance Off!! Lots of memories will be made this week!

This will be another busy week for us here at the Middle School. All grades will be MAP testing this week. We will have our MAP Survivor Day on the 16th; this is an outdoor field day to celebrate the end of testing. Students must have good attendance and show a great effort during testing to qualify for survivor day.
Sixth grade had their spring concert on Tuesday. Seventh and eighth grade spring concert will take place this Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. in the North Gym.
