PTO Safety Night

If you have a child that uses the Internet, you need to attend this event tonight! PTO is sponsoring a safety night on Monday, April 28 from 6-8 p.m. in the Intermediate Commons. Andy Anderson, head of the Boone County Sheriff's Department Internet Crimes Unit, will speak to parents and students (4th grade and above) about cyberbullying, sexting and Internet safety. He is an excellent speaker with great stories and lots of information to share. For the younger kids, there will be three stations for them to go through - bike safety / obstacle course (Bring your bikes/trikes), Internet safety, and stranger danger. A light supper will be provided at 6 p.m. and the presentations will start at 6:30 p.m.

FFA Plant Sale

FFA will be holding a plant sale from May 5-6 after school each day until 6 p.m. They are mainly selling bedding plants, hanging baskets and combination planters that students in the greenhouse class grew throughout the year. If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Cary at kcary@hallsville.org.

Technology Plan Feedback

The Hallsville School District wants to hear your feedback on our draft Technology Plan. The final Technology Plan will be approved by the Board of Education in 2014 and used by administration, faculty and staff as we continually strive to provide the best educational experience for our students.  You may review the draft document and submit your suggestions online. We appreciate your feedback and will keep you posted as the technology plan is finalized.

Please join us on Tuesday, April 29 for our Spring Art Show and Kindergarten Concert. Come see the wonderful art work both kindergarten and first grade students have been doing all year! Our doors will open at 6 p.m., and the concert will begin at 6:30 p.m. The kindergarten teachers would like for the children to report to their classrooms by 6:15 p.m.

With the coming of spring and summer just around the corner, it is easy for children to be distracted. Please help us keep the children focused on our work at school. We will have academic objectives until May 30 and want to make every minute count. As always, thank you for your support!

Intermediate School News
Stacy Fick, Principal

Last week, second grade and fourth grade enjoyed field trips to Runge Nature Center and Prairie Fork Conservation Area Earth Day education. The Honor Choir had the privilege of performing at Worlds of Fun on Saturday. It was quite a busy week but a fun one. The weather cooperated and gave us some great learning experiences.

As we prepare for MAP testing next week, Mrs. Fick will continue to meet individually with students to encourage them to do their best. We will kick off MAP week with an assembly on Wednesday. The kids are in for a special treat during the assembly.

We will welcome dads to school this week for Donuts with Dad - 2nd grade on Monday, 3rd Grade on Tuesday and 4th/5th on Wednesday.

Finally, we wish our Quiz Bowl team the best of luck as they participate in their very first Quiz Bowl Tournament on Saturday in Tuscumbia.

Andrea Simms will represent Hallsville this summer in Washington D.C. She was selected by Boone Electric Cooperative to be the representative on the Youth Tour and to receive a college scholarship. Andrea was invited to attend a banquet last week to deliver a speech with the other finalists. She was originally selected as the alternative for the trip, but, due to a conflict in their schedule this summer, Andrea was awarded the visit to our nation's capital. Congratulations Andrea and thank you to Boone Electric Cooperative for all of the recent honors, awards and scholarships granted to Hallsville High School students.
