HHS Music Department Receives Superior Rating
Congratulations to the High School Band! They earned a Ⅰ(superior) rating at the State Music Contest last Friday (April 4) in Mexico. A one is difficult to achieve and there is no higher rating. Go Indians!
The HHS Vocal Department also participated in the State Music Contest. The students did a wonderful job in a stressful situation. The HHS is one of a few, if not the only, 3A school that had two large group choral events that received the highest rating possible - a Ⅰ for both ensembles (i.e., Women's Choir and Chamber Choir). They absolutely rose to the occasion. The HHS Vocal Department went back on Saturday, April 5 to participate in the District Solo & Small Ensemble Contest. They had 13 vocal events and two piano solos. Seven of those events received a Ⅰ rating and will continue on to the state contest at MU on Thursday, May 1. Seven entries received a Ⅱ rating and one entry received a Ⅲ rating. Congratulations to all of the students who competed! The following solos and ensembles received a Ⅰ rating. Vocal Solos Makayla Crouch, Kaitlyn Gebhardt, Turner Smith, Ellie Rice and Justin Ogle Small ensembles Girls Trio: Madison Crouch, Makayla Crouch and Kelly Cobb Mixed Double Quartet: Kelly Cobb, Makayla Crouch, Ellie Rice, Christa Ohl, Ryan Tarrence, Gaber Breuer, Turner Smith and Jacob Huisman

Congratulations to Tonia Bartlett! As a member of the Missouri Association of Secondary School Principals, Hallsville nominated Tonia to compete in the Missouri Scholars 100 program. Each student nominated had to first meet the criteria of an "Academic Decathlon," which included ten events designed to assure the academic strength of the student. Students had to have a minimum GPA of 3.75, a minimum ACT score of 29, be ranked in the upper 10% of the class and have taken several upper level courses. Tonia was selected as an Honorable Mention for the 2014 class of Missouri Scholars. Thank you, Tonia, for representing Hallsville High School so well.
