It was so good to see the students this morning! Due to our missed days, our 100th day of school will be celebrated on Wednesday, February 12. Valentine's Day parties will be held on Friday from 12:30-1:10 p.m. If you are bringing party treats for your child's class, please remember that all food served at school must be commercially prepared and in a container with ingredients listed on the packaging. No food that is made or prepared at home may be served at school due to allergy and other health concerns.
Primary teachers spent the day on Friday, February 7 discussing school data and the preparation of units of instruction. Literacy skills and number sense are key components to a student's success throughout his/her education. Helping children see how numbers and mathematics are used in the world and encouraging children to read for pleasure and understanding are things we can do every day to support learning at school and at home. Thank you for your partnership!

Our Character Assembly on January 30 was a wonderful event, celebrating our compassionate students and leaders for the months of December and January! We introduced our February word, determination. Several students and adults shared their goals where determination would help them reach goals! We also shared stories of famous people who failed many times and were determined to succeed. Some of those people were Dr. Seuss, Albert Einstein, Michael Jordan and Oprah Winfrey!
Last week certainly is hindering our steady third quarter progress! With last week's snowstorm, we will be playing catch-up this week. Many events from last week have been rescheduled this week. Spelling Bee will take place on Tuesday, February 11 at 1:30 p.m. We will be live streaming the event on the school website and ustream. The Quiz Bowl Team tryouts for fourth and fifth grade will be held on Thursday, February 13 during the day at 2:20 p.m. and Mrs. Fick will notify parents if their students qualify.
This Wednesday, February 12, we will celebrate the 100th day of school! Have your student dress like they are 100 years old. Valentine's Day Parties are Friday, Feb. 14 at 2:15 p.m.

Courtwarming week was a success and it was capped off with a stunning 1 point win by the Indians in triple overtime after being down double digits. I had to cancel the dance that was scheduled after the games due to worsening road conditions. My main concern was students trying to drive on slick roads around midnight, and the DJ was having difficulty getting to Hallsville. The student council is working on rescheduling the dance in the spring. Let's hope for some better weather by then.
