The drawings for the new construction will be available to those interested on Monday, January 27. They will have a few days to look those over before the pre-bid meeting on Thursday, January 30 at 3:45 p.m. in the secondary cafeteria. Interested parties will have the opportunity to ask questions and receive a tour of the campus and proposed construction areas at that time. Bids will be opened and awarded at 1:30 p.m. on February 11 in the board room. After we selected a general contractor, the construction phase will begin soon afterward depending upon the weather.

School Board Candidates

We have three positions on the Board of Education which will be open for the April 8 election. The terms of Jon Bequette, Steve Koirtyohann and Danny Hardin expire in 2014. Filing closed on January 21 and there are four candidates who have filed for these openings: Jon Bequette, Steve Koirtyohann, Shanda Nichols and Christopher Dwyer.

Volunteer Speech and Debate Judges Needed

The Hallsville speech and debate team will be hosting our first annual speech tournament on February 8 at the Hallsville High School. Students from across the state will come to compete in a variety of speaking and performance events. We are in need of community members to help us judge. It is a great opportunity to learn about the activity, give students valuable feedback on their communication skills and be entertained! If you are interested in judging, please fill out the Judge Participation Form and return to Staci Johnson, sjohnson@hallsville.org

Last week was an interesting week with the loss of our computer system for two days.!The teachers and students had to get creative on the fly. It was quite funny to hear the kids say they had to learn the "old fashioned" way. Thank you for your patience with our email system last week. All is back up and running.

Thirty students have been selected in grades 3-5 to participate in our school spelling bee on February 6. The winner will participate in the Columbia Tribune Spelling Bee in March.

We will celebrate our students of good character on Thursday, January 30 at 1:45 p.m. Students who exemplified Compassion (December) and Leadership (January) will be recognized.

It is Courtwarming week! We are encouraging our alumni to all come back this Friday night and cheer for the Indians when we host the California Pintos. The students are getting ready for the festivities by making posters, preparing skits, and playing in class competitive events. The JV boys tip off at 6 p.m. on Friday and the varsity contest will follow. After the games are over, we will have our coronation ceremony to crown the Courtwarming king and queen. We hope everyone will come back to Hallsville High School this Friday and cheer for the teams with us.
